One could employ a proper reel like a "pin" costing around three hundred quid. Years of use in between when the hamster goes to sleep. "ALL" shimano baitrunners have an oiling facility. Merely dunk the whole reel in a gallon of good grade diesel oil for the whole close season. For those requiring a floating line just leave the spool on. And to think you lot get all these top tips for free!! Regards, Lee. |

Dear all,
Just returned from my local after having a butchers at these new reels. They didn't really seem that fantastic, just a shinier version of old and perhaps slightly inferior.... (IMO). They 'feel' as if they are a bit heavier than the previous ones, so they wouldn't really balance up too well on any of my rods. As far as I'm concerned, Shimano are still to beat their baitrunners of 5yrs ago (the 5010, 6010, 8010 etc and the other slightly larger one, can't remember the name), which I think are still the best. When I am in the market next for a workhorse of a reel with a btr facility, I will almost definately plump for an Okuma IBF30. At only £30 with super smooth operation and a nice drag, they are in my books an absolute bargain! Also, you won't be too bothered if they take a battering, which I'm sure wouldn't be the same with the nice shiny Shimano's! Still, each to their own. Regards, Joe. |

I reckon the new XTEa's would be prety nifty for a bit of T'in, as it's not as if they have to balance the rod nicely as they are usually sat in the rest!

Managed to sell my GTE5000b's for 100 as well!. The new XTAE's are stunning tho, Enjoy them Bob. Adam Opener of worm cans and surveyor of the moral high ground.
