Touch Legering |

Tried this seriously for the first time a few weeks ago on the Teme, had 7 Barbel and what an exiting experience, i used the casting type method, finger holding the line above the spool as it is the only one i know of, not that i missed any bites but are there any easier or better ways of using this method.

Malc,
It's a lovely simplistic approach mate. Personally i either loop the line over my index finger and grip the rod as you normally do resting your hand on your knee. This i tend to use on the Severn so your rod tip is at eye level and you've got your other hand free. For low level fishing i'll pull the line out to the side and pinch it with two fingers and thumb. Or, you can form a loop of line and pinch it lightly together so that when it gets pulled through.... Very pleasurable way of fishing, beats the usual buzzer approach, not for all nighters though. |

Hi Malc, been doing a bit of it in certain swims using big bait to great success on the w/avon, short sessions waiting for the bigger fish to take, not holding the line but just the rod, you can feel the fish mouthing the bait and it feels like electricity coming up the line, very exciting feeling then the rod slams round.. Havent tried it with smaller baits but imagine thats when to hold the line..

Tom is right, to really appreciate the sublety of a bite on this method braid mainline is waaay better. Much easier to determine if it's a bite or weed/debris.

I like watching the point where the line enters the water. That little miniscus that moves and twitches

i use the touch leger all the time now.much like in days gone by when i inched the fly deep.i have dispensed with the quiver tip.having been sceptical of the method i now know what a superb
method it is. albert |

Malc,
as has been suggested, hold a loop of line between index finger and thumb loosely and as fish draws the line allow the line to pass through, rod always pointed at the bait. Then whack it |

on one of my first ever sessions on the teme... i touch ledgered... and i was soo nervous i was striking at every little pluck...since then i tohught it was just safer to put the rod on the rests and leave it to pull over!

for demonstration purposes
![]() if i'm using a openfaced reel then i'll simply hook the line over my crooked finger as i hold the rod,if using a centrepin especially as i like my line comming of the bottom of the spool and depending if the reel is a bushing reel or a bearings reel if its a bushing reel i'll hold it horizontal resting on my fingertips and do simular to the pic above,but if its a bearings reel i'll hold the rod just above the reel and pull the line up over my finger or i'll grip it where it leaves the spool whilst cupping the spool in my palm steve
I try to be funny... but sometimes I merely look it http://www.angelfire.com/sd2/chavender/ ![]() |

Re: Braid | ||

Whenever i try this, the line going off to the bait always seems floppy and loose, so i feel i won't feel any bites properly? is this how it is meant to be or am i doing it wrongly?
