They have as much right to be there as we do! Are the fish not used to boats and surely they churn up the water and bring some fish onto feed with all the morsels that come up into the water. This is from someone who has just come back from a boating holiday and will do again next year, as I have done many times before. It is the loud music that comes from these so called disco boats that get on my nerves. I am sure the fish are used to it though. I remember fishing the Thames when I was about 15 and we had about three go past, yet we still caught.

Quote: It's a good idea to alienate the non angling public, (not). The people on the party boat are the same people that the antis, or the sabs as they like to be called, will be targeting with their anti-angling propaganda in the next few years. Adrian.
Next Shropshire b/s meeting Nov 24. Speakers Fred Crouch & Steve Pope. P.M. me for details. |

Really Adrian GET A LIFE!!!!, I get annoyed when glasses, fag ends, champagne bottles and plates get dropped over the sides of the boats. But I dont start chucking 2 oz leads at them, maggots and hemp, get over yourself for god sake.

There is an old saying that two wrongs do not make a right.
For the hard of understanding it basically means that a second misdeed does not cancel the first; in other words, just because the folks on the boat drop some litter in the river it does not give you the right to fire maggots all over them. This is the sort of thing that gives us all a bad name and believe me there are enough stroke pulling so called anglers out there dumping all sorts of god knows what in the river and on the banks that are doing that already. You have no idea who is on that boat or what influence they have on the local political scene or the media, all it would take is for one of your maggots to end up down the front of Miss Chinless Wonders frock during her 18 birthday party and she complains to daddies friend who happens to work for the local paper or is the riparian owner of that, (or any other), stretch of water and suddenly the next time the lease is up the owner decides he wants a nature park, why do you think there is no fishing in Worcester town centre? Believe me no amount of conservation work you may have done will stop the ripples from spreading. There is another saying that states that bad news will get all around the world while good news is putting its boots on. As anglers we would do well to remember that we do not own the river we simply lease the right to fish it, and there are plenty of people who would be happy to see that taken away from us; dont give them the excuse. Besides that, I find that a cheery wave is often rewarded by a flash of something much more appealing than a hairy arse from some of the more adventurous of the females on board. Btw, I have got a very nice life thanks. Edit, Sorry I meant to post this as Adrian but I am rushing to go out to the pub. Adrian (aka Titus). |

Titus good point well made.
The politics of angling start with your acts as a fisherman, and pranks on the unknown ultimately tend to back-fire. There are enough outside threats to angling from abstraction, pollution, antis and political correctness without adding fuel to the fire by alienating the neutral. At least on the lower severn, you don't need to reel in every time the boats go past for fear of the wash dragging your baits into the snags and heavy weed. On my local Ouse. I reel in, smile or wave to the boat as it goes on by and start again. - Dr Barbus |

Adrian/Titus whoever, Fair enough, two wrongs don't make a right. However when you have picked up the amount of litter from these boats, had your kids feet cut to shreds from the smashed bottles dropped from the party goers and thrown into your land from the boats and been deafened by them as they slowly cruise up and down you have the right to be a little peeved with them. A few maggots is sweet revenge.
As for daddies princess speaking to the local rag, doesn't really bother me, I play with the big boys in the premier league in that particular game! |

y does everything always end up in a row on here like i said r u surprized no 1 posts on here when some hamless fun ends up like this . for those who do have party boats on there rivers at some point they will or have been verb abused so whats wrong with a bit of fun regards the litter thing my car isnt big enough to take it all home every time i go and 9 times out of 10 it is anglers who leave the mess .

You put 3363 anglers (or people) in a room (BFW) and not everyone is going to agree. I would think that one of the points of a forum like BFW is that it fosters discussion, with multiple points of view on just about any subject. Whether it is barbel tactics, river reports or boat baiting. You read, contribute and make your own mind up. The subject matter can be topical, esoteric, national, local or some combination. In all cases it is almost immediate and interactive.
Personal attacks aside that is a good thing. - Dr Barbus |

When im fishing and a boat goes past, it gets the old hemp/maggot routine, but when Im in my boat and I go past an angler I speed up, aim for his line and throw any empty beer cans I have laying about at them. So, you see its all swings and roundabouts really.

lol, the thames trolls come out to play. to be honest if i got sprayed with maggots on my boat, although it's probably brimming with the buggers anyway (i spill more than i use) i would not be impressed. i do make a point of avoiding other anglers and their lines, although others dont, there's no need to be childish about it.
would you catapult maggots at a car, just for going past you on the road? errr.....no. |
