does anyone know why alot of barbel pellets are high in oil content where as carp pellets are low in oil content,
surely both fish would like the same kinds of pellet or is there something i dont know about? |

Something I have read recently suggested that 9 out of 10 carp actually preferred the high oil pellets.
Seriously though, I think you will find that fishery managers call for low oil pellets in preference to high oil. Thats why quite a few commercial only allow the baits they sell on site. That's my take on matters, I might be completely wrong SKYPE me - bb king or bfw_bbking

Yeah sounds right, i suppose its also to do with the break down the bait, a much higher oil content will take long to break down especially in a river where the temperature is often lower.

i just found it strange that most of the carp pellets i've found for sale are low oil and most of the barbel pellets are high oil,
would it have anything to do with a river being moving water so more oil gets down stream to attract the fish where as lakes bein still waters dont need as much oil because its not lost in the flow?? |

Most pellets are not designed with either Carp or barbel in mind.
Most were originally designed as trout food and more recently as food for farm bred halibut. Nothing to do with flow. Other pellets started life as animal food and, as far as I know, very few of them live in water. The fact that some of these pellets are attractive to Barbel and Carp is coincidental. Cahal |

Hello Chris as usual I don't know the answer but I do use bloodworm pellets as my instant attractor. They are water not oil based and break down very quickly. Pellets are going to break down quicker in the river than the lake but even so as a general rule the warmer the water the higher the oil content you can use and vice versa. I then like to have various sized oil based pellets in my feed as I like a different breakdown. Matthew.

Do you think that these bait companies actually make the things?

Animal and fish food companies.
try your local pet shop or animal food supplier. Anyone can put a label on a packet of pellets. |

Commercial animal feed companies. Have a sniff around your local one.
