Just a couple of questions, is there a particular model that i should be going for as there seem to be a few different types. Here is one of them. With respect....

I do believe it was the esteemed Chris Ponsford that has a thing agains't Seal skinz socks or was it gloves. In truth I can't see the point of spending all that money on a pair of gortex socks if you have a decent pair of boots that are well looked after unless your planning to fish everest.

Rich, i would prefer a good pair of boots (Lowa's or Scarpa's on Mr Gill's advice ) but at over £100 they are pretty expensive, especially considering i have about 5-6 membership renewals With respect....

Don't take my word for it ask that bloke that trains the SAS, you know the one that does the survival programs on the Beeb Ray Mears. The ones in the link are a good price. Gortex Boot liners You can also get a good deal on Ebay, just search for gortex boot liners. Any one that says Gortex socks are @#%$ don't know S**te

Posts: 2101 (31/03/06 19:37) Banned User Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Good point Joe, I seem to remember someone saying that the constant creasing and rubbing a sock has to cope with tends to cause a large degree of stress on the membrane so ultimately they don't last very well. I've tried liners and never found them comfortable I prefer a good pair of trekking socks and a resonable pair of boots personally I don't prescribe to £100 plus boots being worth the money, although there is no doubt that a good pair of boots will last a long time but so will a cheaper well looked after pair or even dare i suggest military surplus. I do a lot of walking both fishing and otherwise if my feet get a bit damp I know it aint going to kill me.

With respect you seem to be ignoring the other key role played ny a good pair of socks, that of avoiding DVT which is bound to be attributable to long seated sessions on a river bank with large periods of relative inactivity Virgin Atlantic do a great line, sadly only available in purple

Posts: 1119 (01/04/06 07:55) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	If you have a good pair of waterproof boots (I have Meindl's and Brashers) then I agree that Goretex socks are surplus to requirements. However they enabled me to continue wearing my last pair of fabric/nubuck Brashers long after the waterproof membrane had failed and the fabric started to fray.

Posts: 1428 (01/04/06 08:39) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I can't recommend the Seal Skinz socks enough. They're brilliant under a pair of waterproof walking boots, wellies or shoes. I still have a two pais of the original ones from around 14 years ago and they have only recently given up the ghost. The newer ones are much better though - a much better fit and more elastic. I tried some Berghaus Gire-Tex ones and while they were waterproof and very breathable they were too stiff and slightly uncomfortable. ------------------------ www.delticmedia.co.uk

Posts: 321 (03/04/06 09:38) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I use the army style gore tex boot liners, but only when I am in the bag at night carping!! If I get a run at night the last thing I want to be doing is scrabbling around trying to get my boots on when there is a fish on, and taking line. Therefore I bought a couple of pairs of the green army gore tex boot liner things and I just put a pair of them on when I get in the bag at night. Get a run in the night, no problem, throw open bag and get to your rods, job done. No more wet and dirty feet/socks, and the fish is dealt with much quicker. Then just change the boot liners if they got wet or dirty, and back to bed!! During the day I have a pair of gore tex lined boots and find no need to have gore tex socks/liners on as the boots do the job.

Posts: 321 (03/04/06 15:59) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I know what you mean about the slippers/moccasin type footwear. I tried both, but I could just not get comfortable and sleep properly "with my boots on" so to speak. The goretex liners have solved that problem for me though.
