I first heard of chicken skin from my mates dad who owns the house which a perfect bit of Kennet is on, didnt say I invented it - as I said barbeque scraps were always thrown in and like that bloke he used to be a hippy in the 1970's 
its very possible he knows him, that Bob Turner rings a bell to me as there was a tackle shop near by, Turner and Sons but yeah that evening was under very similar curcumstances which the chap was writing about which made me think I have been there before, de ja vu. 
Ive also had carp on bannana chunks, not Barbel though but have had them on sweet flavoured baits such as bannana flavoured bread and honey flavoured sweetcorn. Strawberry flavoured bread/corn was another common one for me.
Pepperami and kabanos was another killer but by no means a different bait.
