hi,ok ill try and put it simply, rather than go round the houses.
bloodworms as we know is part of a barbels naterial food,as they can be seen{on clear rivers}grubbing about on the bottom, and stiring up silt and all minute grubs ect.not all of you are lucky enough to see barbel,so what i was thinking is this, the idea of using fake bloodworm skins on the hook is of course to disguise it,and this is my idea,of putting a redworm or simular on a hair. now the shuffle,as you know by now i fish the h.a,and there are plenty of swims where its shallow,so what i may do is,walk upstream from the actuall swim, onto the shallows and do the shuffle{no laughing please}with my feet, which will disturb the bottom and make the water cloudy, and may even send downstream insects ect, thats the idea anyway. i seem to remember d.w hanging up in a tree a piece of dead meat that was off,and full of maggots, which trickled downstream through his swim,a constant supply of bait.the book with that in was i think called favourite swims by f.j.taylor.cheers derek. |

hi,just had another thought,if any of you fish the royalty fishery, just go downstream of ray,and you wont have to bother stirring the silt up,as he sometimes wades out,so he does it for you.cheers derek.

Hi
Havent used the bloodworm baits for the barbel but have done for carp and tench, but despite them being cracked up to be the next ''wonder bait'' i found them pretty average. Also, some of the bloodworm glugs seemed pretty good, but the more i thought about it, the more i thought that why would they go for this dead preserved stuff than soe of the real thing..? Re the bloodworm hook-skins, i would have thought that the best you could hope for them to achieve is to break up the outline of the hook and cut out any glare as i think that they might look slightly large in comparison to a real bloodworm. Respect.... |

hi,joe i think your right there, the idea was just for covering the hook, but i thought a small red worm on a hair, might be worth trying,as i never see many eels about nowerdays,to get pestered with,as regards of disturbing the gravel, upstream of the actual swim,i will just tell you that i raked a swim out one day on the stour at parly,on the 15th of june, owing to the blanket weed, and loads and loads of cabbages,so i could get the rig in,as i was there all night, within half an hour, there where barbel in the swim i raked out,i ended up with two barbel and a 5lb chub,at the end of the day.cheers derek.
