Posts: 53 (18/02/06 20:06) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Tags : None Hi guys does anyone avoid fishing with the full moon and clears Sky's, i ask because i was out the other night and weather was spot on, plenty of cloud and warm compared to what we have had lately, had a 5Ib Barbel with 30mins. Then the clouds cleared and the moon was so bright it was like having a torch shining in my eyes. I didn't catch all night till about 07.30 Moon gone and i had a carp. So was it the moon or temp drop? Or just bad luck! Thanks Warren 001 Dont just talk about it DO IT

I got mixed replies at the time. However, I'm now convinced that the fishing is much harder when you have a big, bright Moon and clear skies. A few years ago, I fished opening night on the Severn. It was overcast for a couple of hours, fish were rolling and I was catching ok. The sky cleared, revealing a full moon....resulting in one very dead river for the rest of the night! This has happened too many times for coincidence. I`m afraid I don`t subscribe to the temperature drop theory, having caught well, on moonless nights, following big drops in air temp. My pb came on a night of frost, following a warm september day on the Dove. No, for me, and it`s just my opinion, it`s that big light in the sky that does the damage, though I`m at a loss to explain why.

My barbel fishing, when the moon is bright and clear is usually pap. On the moon rise my pike fishing gave me a PB, but that was the rise point of a full moon. I've also caught 15-20lb of roach and chub in 90 min on the moon rise, but then had nothing the next trip to the same swim. I think that in line with good conditions certain moon events including moon rises are triggers, but the standard full moon is not. There are many theories as to why but none satsify me yet. The predator theory doesn't do it, because the same phenomenon happens in predator free waters. I'm not sure about the brightness theory either, barbel feed in the day, the moon is far less brighter than that. It's an interesting subject but I think the answer is elusive, but ideas certainly are plentiful.
