Hiya Ian,
When you say Jackfield bridge, do you mean the free bridge by the Robin Hood? Also where about is the tackle shop, I so rarely get up there these days? Cheers Paul |

If you were thinking of making a trip to check it out I wouldn't mind doing the same. Ironbridge is a spot I've always fancied fishing. Tight Lines and Merry Xmas. I have seen the Mississippi. That is Muddy water.
I have seen the St Lawrence. That is Crystal water. But The Thames is Liquid History. ( John Elliot Burns) |

Doc
I think Ian may mean the newly refurbished Jackfield memorial bridge, that's the footbridge, but I will check it, and the new shop out later today, and will post the details as I get to know them. O.B.G. I was not trying to be mysterious about the name of the river but young Mark seems to be a bright lad and I thought a little bit of research would not hurt him. I would be up for a social in Ironbridge, it would be good to put some faces to some names. The pub on the end of the Jackfield memorial bridge, (I can never remember its name), is a good one but it may be a bit small and it does get a bit damp when the old girl is in flood, Scuba Steve would feel well at home though. Hiya Adrian,
That pub would be the boat, as you say it can get a little wet ![]() I've not fished below the memorial bridge but have seen a few fish come out from there, be interesting to try that if it is now free, I never knew who owned that. Ian, the water left bank either side of the Free bridge used to be Queens Arms, that went for a couple of hundred yards downstream and then it was free anyway down through the lloyds, used to fish that quite a bit. Adrian, Robb & Run, like it Keith, yeh I could be tempted to have a trip up sometime between Christmas and New Year. Make a day of it and have a bit of a social if somebody can suggest a pub that will still be doing food over the break (maybe the Woodbridge, don't know who owns that now, it used to change hands so often?) Fishing will probably be hard this time of year, but hey it's a day out. Don't know if any others from the WBC fancy a trip up, see what a proper river looks like Cheers Paul |

Martin,
The three names for the River Severn are derived from the legend of Sabrina. After winning a battle against the invading Huns, King Lorinus (one of the sons of the Trojan Brutus, who founded England), fell in love with one of his prisoners, a German girl named Estrildis. During the course of their seven-year relationship, she bore him a daughter named Habren or Hafren. When Lorinus finally left his wife Gwendolen to marry Estrildis, she became mad with jealously and raised an army against him. He was killed in battle and Gwendolen had Estrildis and Habren drowned in the river Severn. Hence its name Hafren in Welsh, Severn in English and Sabrina in Latin after a Roman water nymph. Amazing what you can find on tinternet init. Ian, (or is it Mark?). Where did you get your info mate? I do not doubt your word but after asking around this afternoon I could not find anyone who knew what I was talking about. Paul, That's the one! Nice photo Quick edit; I should have said Afon is Welsh for river. Adrian. (from the bunker under the stairs)
