Whenever ive fished with pellets in normal pva bags im always concerned that the water/flow will have washed the pellets away by the time the rig has hit the bottom when fishing deep water. However when fishing sticks the compressed groundbait would take a few minutes to start breaking down thus leaving a scent of attraction around your hookbait. It would be good to know if other anglers have thought of this approach and what success theyve had with it. Cheers.... Brendon

Regards your interest in PVA sticks, I think you will find that they are definately being widely used. Your observations are correct they do work effectively in the manner you describe. Matty

I've just got myself the Korda Cpmpressa and intend to use a stick mix. Bob, I've read your article and very interesting it was too. The only problem i had at the tackle shop was getting any comment on the actual mix. Most of them just seemed to say it only works with Dynamite baits meaty mix groundbait. Thing is, i want to use something more akin to what I'm using on the hook. I've plumped for 75% crushed elips and 25% swim stim groundbait. I haven't actually used this mix yet (in a stick) so i'm wondering if I should add some bread crumb or something. Cheers Peter

My preference (and this is probably because I use fishy based hookbaits) would be for white fish meal - cheap at around 5.50 for 5 kg. There are loads of ingredients you could try, but it depends on what you are after in terms of breakdown etc. For example, crushed hemp will give a more open texture and generally lead to a quicker breakdown. Crushed bfw elips are fine for inclusion. Consider adding some additional Fish Oil as well - but elips have plenty of this Only just scratched the surface here. Cheers Bob

If u drop one in tap clear water , the benfits are very clear to see .Using pellets / groundbait mixture on the severn lately , has seen barbel homeing in on the little piles of attraction . Hemp oil / fishoil either in , or even on the stick works well , and we have been using a syringe to put the oil into the middle of made up sticks , this then does not reduce the breakdown time . Crushed hemp is a good additive, as is the new groundbait called shrimp+garlic method mix , this comes with a liquid attractor to use as well . The other advantage with these sticks , is when fishing for spooky barbel in clear conditions . If you attach them up near the lead , and not just nicked onto the hook , you get a diffrent sound of the tackle going into the swim , almost a soft touchdown on the surface of the river .you can also add a golfball sze one to the hook , this stops tangles. I go through miles of the stuff , and sue wont cast out with out it . Very cheap offer at the mo in tha carp mags , with 20 meter spools being sold as buy on get one free . The quality of the pva is good , and im onto my 80th meter with no probs . Hatters flying high , Hatter

Got a couple of good liquids to put in them so hopefully they will work. Matt, havent fished the swale lately as ive been working. Looks like ive missed some good fishing! Brendon
