Posts: 1006 (24/08/05 13:10) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Tags : None Afternoon Everyone, I have in my shed half a sack of floating green colour koi carp pellets, question is how do I turn them into sinkers without buying one of those pellet pump thingys. With the swimstim green koi pellets being popular with barbel I thought that I would try to use these pellets. Any Idea's please. Best barbel John Look ye also while life lasts.

Posts: 89 (24/08/05 13:13) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	John, try drying them thoroughly - oven on low temperature - then ground them down - then once in powder you can always add to groundbait or mix in some cornflower and eggs and you have Koi paste.

I done this with a lot of mini dog biscuit and it worked a treat on the Mole. Doug Millwall are like Barbel - Ugly but boy do we fight

I had several ponds and lots of pellets which often had powder and crumbly stuff in the bottom. Realising that, when damp, it made a paste and thought "a wonder bait" ...... Problem was that the pellets were too expensive to use for this extensively. So I'd also try blitzing them and mixing with your other stuff. Ewe will have to be careful that the other ingredients don't mask the flavour otherwise all you'll have added is bulk. paul4

I was just looking on ebay at pellet pumps(cheaper than I thought) but they talk of expander pellets, can these pumps be used for ordinary pellets? Posts: 380 (24/08/05 18:08) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Just put some round Koi pellets through my bait pump - turned to sinkers nearly straight away. Could be a slow process as bait pumps don't hold a lot. Have a look for "Wine Pumps" although they attach to the neck of a bottle you may be able to adapt. Bait pumps only work on expanders and floaters as the replace the air with water. Hope this helps.

Posts: 4660 (24/08/05 18:14) bob gill administrator Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	For just a pump at £3.99 and various capacity containers (approx 0.5 to 4.5 litres) go here: Pumps and Containers I tried the Koi pellet thing manty years ago - they worked as a bait (I tried both grinding and scalding and using bread as a binder) but according to the list of ingredients they are nothing that special - white fish meal, wheat germ etc. Happy pumpimg, Cheers Bob

Thanks for that link, Don't know if I'm going to bother with the pellets will probably grind them up for groundbait, I don't know what they contain as you say they are probably nothing special, and I like the pellets that I use for loosefeed to breakdown slowly, If these pellets contain water they probably turn mushy very quickly. I left them in the water as this was just a trial. Doing it for real I would only leave them in for a few seconds - check that they were sinkers - then take them out and dry them on kitchen roll. Yes you can freeze them - they are now full of water. Bait pumps have their uses but they can be a bit of a pain - a lot of trial and error. Mine is now on my bench and only gets a very occasional airing.

It just seems that the ingredients themselves in the combination they are in may not be designed to sink. To be honest I'd test it first at home. If they do still float then don't use em. They were free so you've lost nowt. Mark
