Now i just carry a rucksack for the camera and flasks and a big bait bucket.
Seriously though they are a great piece of kit and will hold all the tackle you need for a days barbeling.

Anyone seen the strap type thingys(can't remember the proper name)Steve Fantastic from Yateley Angling markets. They fit round the seat of your chair and have 4 velcro sealed pockets on them. All my tackle fits in the pockets and when you move or pack up you just flip them on to the seat of the chair and then close it.They hold all the end tackle and bait gear you need.

Matt et al,
In the long run waistcoats can give you lower back/shoulder trouble as you're actually carrying the weight for longer. Especially shoulders. Very small rucksack or a game bag which you put down in situ is ergonomically better. Tom |

Tom is absolutely correct i stopped wearing a waistcoat a few years ago,the problem is they have so many pockets you tend to load them up with too much wieght,i now only use a rucksack

I like my waistcoat for using in tight or steep swims where there's no room for a rucksack.
I also think that getting out a tackle box, baiting needles, bait and so means there's more to put away and therefore moving is more of a hassle. I must admit I waist valuable fishing time trying to work out which pocket I've stuffed something in! ps. I've been using the Greys Fly Vest and it's brilliant. ------------------------

The biggest weight saving I have made this year is to ditch the chair and sit on my unhooking mat.... Althoug the chair will come out again when the weather gets colder/wetter

Crackin utility belt from the army n navy...can get my scales, sling, tackle, camera, drink bottle, licenses, phone and baccy init.
Rolled up mat clips to belt, bank stick and landin net head inside. Bait goes in a T West bait sling thingy around me neck. Rod and landing net handle velcroed together when on the move. Sit on my mat, but usually ends up soaking wet That light I nearly blow away. EASY |

TAc Assault vest by web tex from rifle-cases.co.uk/.
A bit Rambo..but an awesome bit of kit...designed to mil spec but with loads of deep pockets ( about 9) plus two huge inside pockets, loads of clips, velcro straps, hooking points. mesh back...think Arnie or Blaine from Predator loaded up with fishing gear rather than a mini chaingun! As to rucksac/waistcoat overload...simply slip this webbing off when u get to your swim! Also ...fishrite chair...6lb....electronic scales...dumped the Ruby Heats!...and cut down on the lead & bait & those "just in case bits!" DT |

Gotta carry a stove and gas bottle and tins of Marksies Hot Lamb Curry. Going fishing is just an excuse to fire up the stove and eat the stuff!

Try the tobacco tin test. Can you get all your bits and pieces (minus bait) in a tobacco tin? If not - and you're fishing a small river - you are probably carry kit you don't really need.

Lidl sell a really good travelling lighter. They are windproof, under two quid and available from Monday.
When I fish the Trent, it takes me three trips to get my gear out of the car, even if I'm parked behind the peg. There's the holdall, the Evolution brolly, the big bucket with all the bait in, the tripod in its own carrying case, the large rucksack with several pounds of leads in it, the unhooking mat inside the zip up weigh sling, the flasks, the food, the sleeping bag (or duvet later on in the year), the camera bag, two litres of water, the cooking gear, food and the chair or bedchair. If I'm in the mood I might even take my self inflating mattress that turns my bedchair into a luxury bed. I could get a few of those items in the rucksac if I tried, but it's all so hopeless that why other? I think I take more gear with me than my parents used to take when we used to go on week long camping holidays when I was young. |
