I am writing from ireland and am looking to organise a trip to the UK within the next few weeks to fish for barbel. As I have no previous knowledge of fishing for the species, or have never fished in the UK before I was wondering if anyone would have a good contact for a guide who I could hire for my first trip. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks.

I'd recommend contacting Graham Elliot of Angling Experiences (there's a link at the bottom of this page to his web site). He's certainly very knowledgable and has experience on many of Englands barbel rivers. I know he's fairly busy though.... Good luck and enjoy, Andy F

If you can't, why not get Birmingham AA cards for your party & visit local waters on the Severn, Teme & Warwickshire Avon. I'm sure a number of people on this site would be only to pleased to offer advice. I would but I'm afraid it's not my neck of the woods and I don't know the river that well. The other thing to remember is to bring the right gear. Match rods and 3lb line are out of the question. 1.5lbtc feeder rods and 10/12lb line. They fight like no Irish coarse fish. Paul
