Hi All,
spent the afternoon on the Dorset Stour where the Little Egrets are becoming much less timid. They used to fly away at the merest glimpse of a human, but will now tolerate your presence, and this afternoon I was able to get an incredibly close view of one fishing the shallows.
With each step, the leg moving forward was rapidly vibrating, almost like a shiver. My first thought was that it was stirring up the bottom, but with closer observation it appeared as if the foot wouldn't have reached the bottom at the vibrating stage.
Is the Egret sending vibrations through the water? or is it stirring up the bottom? how does this action help the Egret? does it attract/distract/mesmerise the fish? can we learn anything useful from this?
regards,
Butdim
