Funnily Bob I heard it was 19lb 1oz.
Never caught a thing on those barbel specials you forced into my bait bucket last year at the Green. Not seen you about mate hope your well or coping the best you can. Carping up there this weekend if you fancy a cuppa and a bit of fresh air. Would be nice to see you. |

Neil,
How you doing mate ? I'm sure it was 19lbs 2ozs-- was also told that the average size of the captors Barbel is over 13lbs ? Wait till I get him down the Green--I can soon lower that for him. 13lbs average--quite unreal. Bob |

Catching 19lb 2oz Barbel seems pretty right to me.
Come on Bob get him down the Green and we'll see if it's that easy.I reckon it gets more pressure than the Mill. |

Neil- you make an interesting point-I'm sure the lads fishing that stretch of the Ouse consider it a very difficult venue.
It would appear from what I read and from talking to Stuart that this capture was down to his watercraft-I believe he targeted the Gaint after seeing it's tail appear from under the weed. I'm absolutely certain that Stuart would have no trouble at all catching Barbel from any river he decided to fish. Neil, I'm sure you would agree that watercraft is sadly lacking in many anglers. As a bailiff at the Green, I have on many occasions pointed out Barbel laying in or around the streamer weed to anglers-- but many just cannot see these fish ? I think you can learn most skills in angling-- but spotting fish of any species is something I think you are born with. I was fortunate in living close to the Warren pond as a youngster--being around when carp fishing use to relied heavily on floating crust and observation. I wonder if the skills learned as a 1950s carp angling apprentice and transfered to every other species are now sadly lacking in many of the anglers we see on the lakes and rivers today. Maybe I could tempt Stuart into a trip to the Green- by the lure of that elusive 8lb Chub or those 4lb Perch-- but to be honest- if you have caught 19lb+ Barbel, why would you want to catch 14lb Barbel ? The draw of being the first person ever to catch a 20lb Barbel in this country, must be immense-- and good luck to all the lads trying to achive that ambitions. Bob |

To be honest bob I aint that bothered about catching a 20 pounder.Although it would obviously be nice Its not going to give me sleepless nights, unlike some people that fish the ouse.I just want to catch barbel so a 13 or 14 pounder from fishers green would mean as much to me as it would to you. You won't get me enthusiastic about those chub though I just can't get my head around fishing for them when there are big barbel in the same river. Funny you should mention big perch,I'm heading over to tring on sunday to try my luck,it'll make a nice change to cast overarm.

Evening Stuart,
Very well done on catching your Monster off the Mill, Mega Fish ! ,and I would love to gaze down at that in my landing net,but alas it wont happen as I concentrate on my local rivers, just because they are so close and handy, and I can find a few quiet stretches to enjoy myself. You have the right attitude mukker, unlike some on the Mill, after all its only a hobby after all,and all targets are a personal thing. What I find sad is the lengths some folk will go to achieve thier aims,or should I say notorioty, and you will know who I am on about. See you at Bobs Bash in December, Regards, The Pons. |

Stuart--Having fished for Perch all my life, I have not yet caught a 4lb fish-- and that includes giving the Green some serious time a few years ago.
Like Big Barbel, they are very rare beasts-- Tring-Buckingham AA ( Ouse )--Ferris Meadow- seems a to be the best bets. But Jerry's stretch of the Lea is doing some big 3s at the moment and who knows, it could do a 4. Let me know when you fancy a trip to the little pond in Hertfordshire ? Bob |

I can guess who your on about chris. I think our chairman has had a quiet word.To many upset people.
Bob I spoke to jerry in the week and apparently he's opened that other lake on a day ticket. He's put qiute a few fish in,2 thirties and over 20 twenties so that might be worth a visit soon.I didn't know he had decent perch in his stretch,I'll have to investigate that one.You caught the only barbel in his wierpool though didn't you.I'm ready when you are for a lesson in carp fishing mate.Actually my personal best carp aint much bigger than my personal best barbel so I might need some help. |

Bob take Adams on the channel for his carp fishing mate.It will make it interesting instead of those pool bound lumps.
Saw a mid twenty mirror down by the Bittern hide sunday, hooking that would have been interesting on the barbel gear. |

Neil- I reckon it would only be practice for that Monster Barbel mate.
We will have to drag him up the Green one day-- those Relief Channel Carp-- are like huge Barbel-- but harder fighting ? Only joking lads. As for Jerry's - he has done a great deal of work on that new lake and made a really good job of it-- he deserves to suceed if hard work were the key to success. I am sure all the Weir's and sluices on the Lea hold Barbel- but they are few and far between. Stuart, although I was very happy to catch that Carthagena Weir Pool Barbel--I had hoped it was a monster Chub-- maybe this year ? As for the Perch-- let me know if you can get off early one afternoon--last hour of daylight seem to be the time there-- and I know where they live mate. Bob |
