For the first time yesterday, I used barbless hooks, normally I use micro-barbed. Although I managed to land some fish, I was bumped off by as many again. It is not unusual for me to lose one or two fish on micro barbed hooks, but nowhere near as high a percentage as yesterday. What am I doing wrong, when I am hooked into a fish, I feel that I am playing it right, the clutch on my reel is set just right, and soaks up the powerful surges, and I do keep constant pressure on the line. The only time I relax the pressure is if the fish goes into a snag and wants to stay there, this is not usually the time when I get bumped off, it is usually when everything seems fine and the fish is within just a couple of yards of me. Is there a significant difference between Barbed and Barbless hooks when playing a fish.
