Sometimes these breakages can be fixed - probably 'patched up' is a better description. I usually put a thin section (taken from old broken rods) up inside the blank (dependant on how close to the tip and how thin the internal walls of the blank are etc.) and then put another over the outside and whip and epoxy the ends. I have done this with quite a few fly rods and they have lasted well - I always point out, may bust again tomorow, may last a lifetime.
Unfortunately it is not really the answer, you will lose some action through the rod - major flat spot - and I only ever look upon it as a makeshift patch up, but depends what you are happy with. No idea what make the rod is, if it is a popular new model you may be able to order a new tip through your tackle dealer. Equally distributors may say " sorry mate, went out years ago", and happily flog you a new model! If it is British blank you are more likely to get a replacement, may only be a blank section, but no problem to whip it up - not expensive - if using the old rings. Hope this helps, if you need a new rod then try previous "I've broken my rod, what shall I buy" threads. We have all been there. Grumps |

hi terree, one alternative is to have the top cut down a bit more and convert the rod into a quivertip rod....j.w.

Hi Terree,
To anyone else reading this too, I am back from my tour of the Dominians! On to the problem in hand. As Matthew has said it is possible to "internally splice" the break. However, again as Matthew has said, this will effect the action somewhat. I have done loads of repairs like this and am fortunate that I have a lot of broken fly rod tip sections in my junk box and can usually find a suitable piece. There are a couple of alternatives that you might like to consider. It is quite feasable to cut the rod back farther and splice a new couple of feet into the existing section. Or, splice a quiver tip into the section. Look, if you want to talk it through give me a call 01761 436900 daytime. Sometimes I can even find a new section! Roger |

The main problem is that my rod that is broken is a Hexagraph by Bruce and walker and hence not the traditional shape?
Is it still fixable? |

Hi Terree,
You are right. To repair a Hexograph is beyond my experience. Suggest you call Bruce and Walker on 01487 813764. I rather feel that they will supply a new section. Roger |

Hello Terree, hope you have better luck than last week if your out tonight. Just looking at the B&W brochure and they claim to be able to replace almost any section, current or discontinued.
