I must admit to being a static angler for the majority of my Barbel fishing. I only normally fish short evening sessions so prefer to stay put if I think I'm in a resonable swim.
I have read bits about the rolling meat methods mastered by Ray Walton and wondered if he or any others who use this method would mind explaining the best way to fish this style.
I can see that I could cover more water and potential fish holding areas in a short time and would like to know more.
I know Ray suggests using plastacine as weight and that you want the bait to travel down the river as if it was a freebie, but its a few other details i'd like to ask about.
Do you fish with your bait upstream of were you are standing ?
How much of a bow do you have in your line ?
Would you walk/ roll your bait down a stretch as far as you could and repeat from were you started or concentrate on just one area to roll your bait through ?
Is it better to have enough weight to hold bottom so you can keep your bait in one area and bounce it as required ?
I'm sure there is loads of other thing to take into consideration like flow, depth of swims etc.
If anyone could give a few tips or if Ray could add an article on this subject ? I'd be most gratefull
