I understand that a decision has been made in respect of the fishing rights at Adams Mill. To prevent speculation and more conjecture, I feel that it is appropriate to make known the facts from the perspective of the Barbel Society Committee.
The Barbel Society did not actually submit a bid for the rights. The very fact that MKAA had expressed their desire to maintain their fishing prevented us from so doing. We are an honourable organisation and have said on numerous occasions that we have no wish to take waters from open membership clubs.
However, we made it known to the Agents by letter that should the tenders received be unsuitable for any reason then the Society would welcome the opportunity to discuss ways to manage the fishery in the future.
It would appear that a bid has been successful and the future fishing rights will go to a limited membership syndicate, that is all I know.
There will be a story in next weeks Angling Times, and full details with comment will be in the next Barbel Fisher and on the Barbel Society website which will be going live in two weeks time.
The ramifications from this sorry saga will be huge, and anglers everywhere will need to take a long hard look at themselves, and angling itself will need to take stock and be sure of just where it is going.
