Yes it is a fishing related question - anyone know where I can get the brass threaded bits used in landing net, rod rest heads etc.
Cheers

Hi Bob, you wont find threaded brass bar. especialy 3/8" BSF. It is better to buy the brass drill and tap it your self. Failing that, buy the brass, and take it along to a small Engineering company and get them to drill tap and turn the brass to the diameter that you want. The other thing that springs to mind is, give Woodbury Chilcott a ring, they hang out along the Feeder Road. They are a bar stock dealer and enginnering supply you would be able to buy a set of BSF taps from them. I hope this is a little bit of help. You would really need a set of three taps and a tap wrench to make a good job yourself.

Hi Allan,
Thanks for the reply - I was looking for an easy way out as I had all the necessary bits but when I recently closed the workshop in Bristol they must have been mislaid. Thanks again Bob |

Bob
What exactly are you after. The male bits or the female bits, or both? I realise the question may invite the wrong response but maybe Dick is asleep and you can answer sensibly first. paul |

Hi Guy`s,
Sorry, been inundated with work of late,....yes I did say I knew someone who made that sort of stuff for Solar tackle,..His name was Tony Abbott and he came from Andy Thatchers neck of the wood`s ,over there in Luton,....I`ve tried to get in touch with him but to no avail,....sorry I couldn`t help more......I don`t know if anyone goes into The Tackle Box in Kent, but Lee Jackson might know of his whereabouts. All the best, Andy. |

Hi, Bob.
If I remember corectly the size of thread you need is 5/16". I made enquires at work and they reckon it's about £5 per metre. One alternative is to buy a bolt then it can be cut to the required size. There must be a (marine) engineer suppliers in your area, take the female bit to check if I'm right. Stainless steel might be more readily available . Mike. |
