Re: paste suggestions from the blanker!!

Hi everyone,
On the subject of pastes + boilies Ive just brought myself some John Baker orig. barbel mix and search 4 additive with much recommendation, just hope it catches my first barbel! ( tried meat +hemp! ). Would anyone now the best way to mix it, as it doesn't come with the 'fact sheets' that are available. Also, ive' gone all the way and purchased myself a sausagemaker & rollingtable -will the baker mix be able to be rolled with the table or hand rolled ? cheers Alex |

Dr Falloon's paste mix is excellent and certainly far cheaper than 'named' base-mixes.
Only one drawback that he's failed to mention... the smell of the cat biscuits is extremely potent and when mixed with trout pellets and monster crab, 'mad scientist' Pete So, if you're ever wandering the banks and suddenly think you've trodden in something look for a blonde barbellist in a lab coat Actually I have a serious point relating to this paste thread. As Pete mentioned this season has been awful for us on the Ouse. Could this be related to the increasing use of pastes/HNV boilies? Could baiting campaigns by groups/individuals destroy the sport for anyone not using their specific paste? Or is it just that we are cr*p fishermen!? Cheers Dave |

alex, try making a 3 egg mix to start, mix 3 large eggs into a boul then add your search 4 flavour but dont put more than
1/2ml per egg to start, then add your base mix a little at a time until the required mix is reached. hope this helps andy. |

cheers for the advice andy - will get mixing on the secret when the house is clear !
After reading similiar threads to this one, Can it be said that barbel really do learn to avoid meat & hemp on some venues, and only eat special baits as they are the better food source ? Alex |

dear alex why go to the trouble of rolling your bait into balls, the only reason the carp guys done this was because they catapulted a lot further in that shape , most rivers and distances youll be fishing wont need that , just break a lump off after mixing and roll out on a nice clean shiny surface"smear a bit of olive oil over the surface 1st and over your hands, it helps to stop the mix from sticking, once you have got your sausage shape just cut it into sections just like pellets and away you go.... j.w.

I just use a bait gun to get the paste into sausages and then cut then into pellets. Then either boil or leave to air dry.

Re: paste/new baits advice please

Hi All,
For my boiled hookbaits and air dried paste pellets I use one of those big roller ball bait tables at the 10ml size. The nozzle of the bait gun is cut at 7ml which in reality squeezes out a 8ml sausage. I gun out a series of 8ml sausages across the bait table then simply press down hard with the top section of the bait table and roll only very slightly. This gives my hookbaits a pellet shape which are then boiled and frozen for later use. 1 to 2lb of these hookbaits last me the whole season whilst the same made and shaped baits are made periodically throughout the season and just left to air dry uncooked. Regards, Lee. |

hahaha i still aint 100% sure if i'm goin yet, my one and only mate at skool who fishes dont if he can be bothered or not, he wants to go and sit all weekend at some carp lake, i'll rather fish till 10 or so saturday night than sit behind buzzers and carp rods all weekend, oh well i'll see what happens, i'll probably end up at radwell till dark o clock in the end, spose its better than a kick up the arse
cheers Daniel p.s. went with ray for a couple of hours this afternoon after school, only 1 bite, looked ''chubby'', but i learned hell of a lot while i was there which was more valuable to me than catching, and mums now got a freezer full of lovely smelly paste, going to look thorugh the classifieds in the local paper for a cheap second hand small freezer to keep her from moaning. |

Hi Dan and all,
Seems like we have a budding superstar in you Dan, whats more important is, it's easy to tell that you are a caring angler and respect your quarry. I must say it's refreshing to see the likes of Ray, Lee and others all respected anglers taking the time and trouble to help and pass on a lifetimes knowledge to you. Can't help with the paste bit Dan as just learning/experimenting myself after a few years out the country but seeing as I have just started my Trent campaign for the Autum/Winter, work in Bedford and live just south of Northampton if you fancy a trip up there to perhaps meet up with Lee and try your hand at a proper river (wait for the onslaught) your more than welcome to come with me any time, just e-mail me on keitht@bluechip.co.uk Keith |

Just to up date you I had two barbel on thursday night one a double and an upper nine, so things are looking good. Look forward to our next meeting. best fishes Ray |

Proper river Keith ?
Only pulling your leg but if you are going to persist on fishing streams like the Trent wait till you fish a real river like the Rhine for an eye opener Ray are you going to be about on the 26th this month ? I'll be heading for the Ouse. Cheers Andy |

Re: paste/new bait | ||

hi ray, mum was ok about it, ( just about!! ) i'm on the look out for a cheap small freezer for the barn to keep it all in, our freezer is about 70% full of bait which mums not best pleased about.
cracking 2 fish thursday night, i'm on that stretch up to about 10ish tonight, not sure if i'm going to go to the bends or where i usually go, probably the bends as not many fish that end i'll see who else is there when i arrive. cheers Daniel |

I have had good results this year with primula cheese curry flavour which i mix with a binder usually just pastry. the chub love it as well so it is good for a few bites when times are tough.
