New user here so Hi to all.
A question was raised a while back regarding whether there are any barbel in the Nene. (Dan Whitelock)
I can confirm that around 12 to 15 years ago 400 barbel of around 8 oz each were introduced in to this river by the environment agency (or whoever it was then) near Oundle. This was witnessed by my father and brother who were working alongside the river at the time.
I caught a small barbel of around 2 lbs last year whilst "chubbing" but despite many other visits to the same spot have not caught any since.
A double figure barbel was caught at Woodford during a match on a pole! apparently it came in like a wet blanket!
Does anyone know whether the fish I caught would be an original stock fish or a "next generation" fish? If the barbel are breeding and there are larger fish in the Nene it may be worth trying a little harder to catch them in the future.
