There are lots of different ways to make paste, I use this one, it is easy and not as much work as some ways..
Take about 6-10 slices of white bread, and wizz them up in a blender until they are all crumb..you can include the crusts , or not as the mood takes you....I personally cut the crusts off, makes for a smoother paste. Go to the corner shop and buy some Dairylea Cheese triangles.... By hand start to mix the soft cheese Triangles with the breadcrumb..one at once- not all together. Once you have a good consistency, put to one side and take some of the smelliest cheese you can find, I use either strong green Stilton or strong Cheddar... grate it up using a Cheese Grater, then start to mix the grated cheese in with the paste you have already made, you can balance the smell factor by adding more grated stinky cheese, the Dairylea Cheese spread gives you the base paste. This should give you sufficient for a days fishing...... I always keep the cheese paste wrapped in a clean wet cloth, such as a hanky or similar, then put that in a ziplock bag, the longer you keep it, the smellier it gets, so leave it outside in the shed if you dont want divorce proceedings. If the paste gets a bit hard you can dip the cheese still wrapped in the cloth, in a bowl of cold water and kneed it whilst it is still wrapped up, dont worry if it gets a bit green, the fish seem to like that. You can also keep the bagged up paste in your freezer, it will last for months, and only seems to get smellier the longer it stays there. My PB Ribble Chub took this concoction last year. Not everybody will agree with this way of making paste, but it works for me ! Dave. |

then kneed kneed kneed, wrap it in a plastic bag, freeze and then thaw.
On a side note pallatrax are about to launch a cheese bait and dips which Im keen to try |

Danish Blue is nice and smelly and also very soft. You can blend it in to the breadcrumb/pastry by hand without having to bother with a grater.

Danish Blue for me too , along with the breadcrumb . I stand the cheese ( in an airtight container ) on the boiler in the garage for a day or two first to get
really soft and ripe , I then add a packet of cheese sauce mix and some of that horrible dry grated parmesan to the breadcrumbs and knead into a paste . Wrap
the whole lot in foil and back into an airtight container , this then goes into the bait fridge until needed .

The best cheese paste mix I've found goes......
250 grams frozen shortcrust pastry. 250 grams of blue cheese (my preferred choice being stilton)
100 grams extra mature cheddar
Freeze ALL the ingredients and grate into a bowl, then either mix quickly by hand or I blitz with a food processor until mixed evenly. Leave to stand and thaw for a day somewhere warm, during which time excess moisture should evaporate off..... Then knead until an even paste, if still to sticky add corn flour slowly whilst still kneading. Perfect cheese paste in no time!!!
If using in very cold water try mixing in 50 grams of soft cheese such as Brie. (if adding Brie I always leave unrefrigerated for about a week) Just freeze unused bait in a plastic bag and when making a new mix up try and add a little of the old mix in to aid fermentation!!! Yes you did Jim! If i remember rightly the dogs ate the first batch before you got to try it and then you spilt Cheese Elite flavour on the carpet and nearly
got divorced!
Actually that could have been me!
Straight from 'Quest for Barbel' - the best recipe going! :- 8oz frozen pastry 8oz extra mature cheddar 4oz Danish Blue If you fancy pepping it up or want a divorce add a few mls of Nutrabaits Cheese Elite flavour!

Has anyone found that by making a strong cheese paste they catch less barbel and more chub. The stronger i made it ,the more it seemed to catch only chub ,or
is it just coincidence.A milder Cheddar paste seemed better for barbel .A friend also found a mild paste better when stalking carp.

i am suprised no has suggested gorganzola as the base for a cheesepaste , let it get really ripe first and it is the best .
