It is too early for Hugo and I to fully appreciate the help that has been given by the unseen supporters of the Preservation Society. We are very grateful and look forward to many happy times musing on our great Passion for Angling

Hugo,...
Very pleased to hear that all is now well,...Although I am slightly concerned over this shopping trolley,..how did Mr Boote end up being attached to this object?...was it intentional?,...it seems there are several....I only hope they can be removed without undue pain and stress...please pass on my very best wishes to Mr Boote,...and tell him that there is no cause for concern as todays modern medical techniques have come along in leaps and bounds,..Asdatrolleyoptomy`s are an everyday thing. You mention Bruin has been groundbaiting,..Sir, as you know I have long been an admirer of your Dog training techniques and capabilities,...your name in this field is unequalled,..but how on earth you taught him to use a catapult with such accuracy is beyond me. Hugo,..You say you have a `master plan` on catching this potential record Burbot,..well,.I look forward in hearing all about it, if you`d care to share, of course,.. Congratulations on the win at the Tennis tournament,..Kimberley and I look forward to the next event,..Polo perhaps,..It would be nice to give the `old nag` a run out. regards, |

Reminds me of the Rangers goalkeeper Andy Gorham, who suffered from schizophrenia.
At the 'old firm' derby the Celtic fans burst into; 'There's only two Andy Gorhams, two Andy Gorhams...' Not meaning to upset anyone on this thread, as I'm looking forward to my invite to the legendary autumn run of Pinn burbot. |

My twin stepbrother, Hugo Janus-Curgudgeon has taken offence but I, Hugo Curgudgeon do not mind.
In real life we have dropped the double barrelled name but my daughters still have it as a family name. Is life stranger than fiction if so then let us take up the rods and continue the quest for the holy burbot unburdened by bivvies and buzzers and boilies and body armour. When the dog bites when the bee stings when I'm feeling sad I simply remember my favourite things and then I don't fell so sad. Bruin never bites, he has never been stung by a bee and he is never sad. He is sitting by me now correcting spelling mistakes having tied some flies and written an article to the New Statesman. I love Labradors because as clever as they are they never patronise we lesser mortals. Hope to fish the Pinn on Thursday and catch one of those elusive burbot. I would even be happy with a double figure fish. There is one called smiley, so I am told but that is from a public stretch nearer to the Thames. Tight lines Hugo and Hugo

Hugo has used the wrong name for that 11lb 3oz 6drm
burbot that I caught last season using a stickleback on a paternoster rig. The stickleback had died of natural causes, a scale reading showed that it was at least 3000 years old. 3000years old, Happy Birthday to you noble beast. The burbot in question which was one of a shoal of medium sized fish became known as 'The whiskery Tiger', because of its unusual markings. And so to bed Hugo |

I used to fish with a Janus, as kids we would always leave him on watch for the keeper, later in life he had an uncanny knack of seeing both sides of a story.

Luckily Sticklebacks don`t celebrate each others birthdays by giving `the bumps`.
One wonders what major changes the Stickleback had seen, and what stories it could have told..Alas , we shall never know. (Especially since you fed it to that Burbot). Whilst having a quiet drink in `The Pig and Blanket`, Nempnett Thrubwell,...I encountered a rather interesting fellow who went by the name of `Jimmy no toes`,...our conversation got round to Burbot, as it does, and he seemed to be rather `aux fait` on the subject. As the evening flowed I ,cunningly, and over a period, plied him with ale spiked with gin in order to abstract as much information as possible. Unfortunately, it seems, I got the glasses mixed up and as the evening came to a close found myself in a rather embarrassing position with a feisty young barmaid and a tub of `Thruxtons Lard`. However, Old chap, I do remember him mentioning Burbot being taken from a southern river and held in stock ponds until such a size as to warrant being re-introduced into a midlands stillwater.... Methinks there is scullduggery afoot,...Could it be some rascal is fattening up these fish only to claim the record and plunder the treasure?....I have made enquiries through an old friend, and he has been to the location on several occasions and has witnessed copious amounts of Stickleback and Lamprey boilies being introduced into said fishery. The race is on Hugo!,...let us not be caught without, let us thrust ourselves forward with valour and verve and other things beginning with v. |

Quote: Yes, Poor old Boote hasn't been himself recently. Fantasy comes so much more easily to him than fact don't you think? |
