Do fish have much in the way of mental capability, or is it inherent fear of any thing that appears unnatural. Do some fish species possibly develop instinctive fear due environmental pressures?
Most of fishing is for chub or carp. These species behave in very different manners i.e Chub are very shy and fearful of any thing that seems unnatural but without alarming that sense of fear they are on the whole quite easy to catch.
Were as carp on the other hand are very inquisitive and bold and will happily swim right past an angler which they must be able to see. Then when targeted hard become much more weary but equally are still catchable.
Barbel I would put somewhere in between these two species as in that on a lot of prolfic stretches that are not heavily pressured they are relitively easy to catch. On less prolific stretches they are more weary I beleive because they lacking in confidence due to lack of "group security".
With all this said my opinion is that fish are not intelligent but develop instinctive fear of unnatural things in their envroment but don't actually know what or why they have this fear hence they are still catchable albeit they become harder!!!!!!!!!!!
