Angling Times ran an article on this canal about 20+ years ago when I was right into canal fishing. All that I really remember was how envious it made me in
that some guys were catching 80lb bags of mainly tench near rushes / lillies along the far bank. Mostly in the 1 1/2 to 3lb bracket. But back then there were
no tench at all along the stretches of the Oxford canal that I was fishing.

Dave,
Fished it a lot a long, long time ago (25 years). Read a lot about it in the subsequent years. Walk it with the kids every now and then (there's a steam railway nearby which we ocassionally visit on wife avoidance manouvers (sp?)). More carp fishing now than in years gone by; couple of chapters on it in River Carping. If there is anything specific you would like to know please don't hesitate to ask - by pm if you would prefer. day ticket or are now club controlled but early season tench fishing back then could be good.

hi folks, what is a good bit for the tench or are they all along, i know you can buy a day ticket for only £5.00 for one section,
and mid kent charge £95 a season.

as i said,i havent fished the canal for a few years, but hythe was always ok for tench, bream and roach and there were a few carp about too.. ruckinge and ham
street were also ok and i used to see a few keen pike anglers at ham street in particular.

Used to fish it a lot in matches, untill the water authority decimated the weed one year and the canal suffered a big fish kill! Dont know if its recovered
but there used to be great tench/ bream fishing nearly all the way through and lots of pike, I used to fish kennardington a lot and if I remember right there
used ro be a good tench swim under some pylons there! also aldergate used to be good think it was a little deeper here, and I seem to remeber a swim called the
diving board being very good? Could have the venues muddled but it used to be an excellent fishery.

Apart from a small section west of the bridge on West Hythe road, which is members only, the Cinque ports controlled stretch is available on day ticket.
Members have told me you pay on the bank, but I can't say for sure if this is correct. My brother in law has a property that backs on to the canal here. I
have seen plenty of large carp there. Two years ago I watched a young lad stalking big carp. A couple of weeks later I saw him in the Anglers Mail, holding a
thirty he had caught from the canal. Apart from the carp, I have seen small Rudd, decent Bream and Tench caught. Met Alan Yates there once, and he put me on a
good mark for lure fishing for Bass. Really nice man.
