Posts: 99 Nov 11 08 5:27 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Tags : None I am currently trying to decide on a new Barbel rod. I am not interested in a quivertip as I already have a heavy feeder rod with glass tips that does that job. I am trying to decide between a korum neoteric twin tip with the 1.75lb TC and 2.2lb TC Avon tips, and the Drennan 12' super specialist power barbel with the 1.75 and 2lb TC twin tips. I like both these rods as they have the standard 1.75lb TC for everyday but also the added versatility of the 2lb TC if conditions are heavy. However, nightmare to choose between them. Can anyone out there shed a little light? Any help welcome.

Used to be the case of if buying a rod not made for you and you could afford a Drennan that was what you bought. Nothing else to contribute I am afraid other that agreeing with the post above as I have not touched either. Cheers Andy

Posts: 741 Nov 11 08 5:37 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I've got the neoteric and its a nice rod which has done me proud with some nice fish landed on it. The drennan looks a nice rod but with only .25lb difference between the tips it might not be quite as versatile as the korum which with the 2.2lb tip makes a nice light carp rod etc. Not all who wander are lost.

Posts: 616 Nov 11 08 7:23 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I have a Korum twin tip and I can only echo Jemsue3's comments. I landed my 14lb 12 oz PB on the 2.2 tip and it handled it beautifully. In saying that I have spoilt myself recently (Peregrine floodwater, i-Power and a Torrix 2 on order) so I am likely to be selling it, although I like it enough to keep as a spare. I think that for the money it is excellent. Conrad

Like the idea but have a rod to cover the 1.5lb TC so that tip wouldn't get used. Thought therefore I would go for a twin tip and not a huge difference in price. liking the idea now of the 2.2lb TC as an added weapon to the carping arsenal. Would like to hear from someone with a Drennan though.

Thanks to everyone who has posted...would still like to hear from someone who has used the korum carping and as a waggler rod on commercials.

They only run to low doubles but the 1.75 TC tip is much better than a standard feeder rod. It has more backbone when you need it. I wouldn't fancy it as a waggler rod though, although I have never tried it. Conrad

Posts: 29 Nov 11 08 9:46 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I have the Drennan rod, fantastic piece of kit but personally i feel the the 1.75 and 2lb tops are overated. I also have the Greys prodidgy specialist which has two tops rated at 1.5 and 2lb and believe these to be closer to the rating. I recently bought the Korum 2.5 rod as it was the closest rod i could find in the shop that didnt look like a carp rod having smaller eyes and a full cork handle, not used it yet but the floods carnt be far off. Personally i have been struggeling with Greys and Drennan rods when heavey leads are required, for the money the finish on the Korum rods is good and i would say the 2.2lb top wouldnt be far off.

Posts: 192 Nov 12 08 1:17 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I opted for a pair of Korums at the start of the year, I have used them to catch Barbel into double figures off the trent using loaded 3 and 5oz feeders, carp to 17lb using method feeders, Tench to 6lb and good size chub too. Love em as they can handle hard fighting fish wonderfully with the added bonus of being able to chuck heavy feeders and weights with the Avon tips too. They have been used extensively with no damage to them and are very good value. I do have an array of various rods but IMO these are by far my favourite pair of rods. A wee bit too stiff IMO for waggler work though. Lee

The Twin Tip at 2.2 is excellent when the river is pushing through, used it the other day with 6oz of lead and felt confident it would handle 1 or 2 more. Tip very steady in the wind and flow with no problem seeing the bites when they came. Will be standard rod for flood conditions.

It will go down as one of the best 'off the shelf' rods ever so if you have the opertunity to buy one do as i believe they have stopped making them - you will be purchasing a 'classic'!

Posts: 99 Nov 14 08 2:49 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	The night tips are a bonus not a true rod advantage, being an all round angler (sea, course, and fly) I am used to fixing night lights to rods when night fishing for barbel, bass, and other saltwater species. Doing this doesn't bother me at all. Tod jim i'm sure you've caught as many barbel, if not more than me (being a youngster at 21), but the main thing I have learnt is that correct tactics and watercraft catch you fish, the rod is just a small part of this. In my opinion this is the case with all types of fishing, from carp to salmon. But when spending money on a new rod, advice and opinions from older and more experienced anglers is a resource that would be foolish not to acknowledge, and the Korum comes highly recommended. I only started fishing the rivers this year and not had much success yet(2 barbel,small & smaller still),but like you said,talking to more knowledgable anglers is the best way of learning and I am a willing listener.

Here's a tip, if you generally use the chemical starlights for night fishing ( as an alrounder including sea i presume you do ) try using a pair of isotopes instead when on the river. They are still clearly visible but dont affect your night vision as much as the brighter chemical lights. Drennan sell the same ones on the Barbel rod as pair with adaptors to fit any diameter rod tip. Also take a look at the Isoblob's in the BFW rods section - quality.
