thanks nick!! Cant see it being a great year for barbus on the wandle not in any numbers!! But the few larger barbel with less competition may well break the
river record!! Good luck to all who fish this lovely river

Good luck to all Wandle anglers this season; I've been itching to get out and try a few ideas I've had from reading different threads on this site.
I only really started seriously in December, so my first summer should be interesting...bring on the chub! John |

new season... FINALLY!!! | ||
|
Hi all. Hows fishing going? been out for a few hours the last couple of nights and had nothing but chub, (sorry john).... Good to be back on the river, although i have to say that im not to happy with the way the banks have been cut??
The river has been looking great during the close season with the plants growing leaving nice little swims with plenty of cover between you and the fish, now they could fit three to four people in each and theres no cover at all!! its all rotting on the bank??? Im not one to complain but been looking so forward to fishing the river this season and was gutted at the mess it was in on june 16th. Tight lines Andy

Bad news so far; blanked Tuesday night (in a swim I blanked in last season) fished last night for about an hour and snapped me new Grey's Prodigy reeling
in some blanket weed! It broke at the point the quiver tip goes into the middle section and I didn't have the avon tip with me so just trudged home with
the hump.
Sent Grey's an email when I got in as I've only used it twice (don't know what would have happened if I'd hooked a barbel on it?) I agree with you Andy about that bank, you sit there standing out like a sore thumb! I fancy the last down stream swim myself;) |

apparently the bank has been cut bact to allow access to the small pond for the NRA?? but it does seem a bit drastic!!!Had one three ound chub and plenty of
small stuff on magg feeder and missed a great bite late oin the 16th bit of rain may well of done it good, hope so!!!

Had a look along by the savacentre today (with the family) and there seems to be a bit of colour there. Fishing Friday night there was a lot of weed coming
down clogging the line after a couple of minutes; didn't expect it to break the rod though!
Looking at other threads in Barbel Talk, the fish may take a while to get back on the pellets, natural baits may be best early season? Do you know what the NRA are doing to the pond Wayne? Tight lines. John |

My goodness didn't the close season seem to go on for ever? Had a poor start though on Sunday only netting 2 average size roach on pellet. Dropped 3
others, 1 looked very decent. Saw what looked like a tench gobbling my freebies? Should I be off to specsavers at the earliest opportunity....?

This close season had to be the longest i have ever known. my other half was sick of me moaning about getting on the river again, now shes moaning that she dont see me anymore??
Save your money for now fella, seen tench in the close season following
a small mirror carp around.
Any barbel coming out? seen a lot of small ones around 6-12oz which is good... Also seen some nice perch and a "pike" (about 6lb) around wandsworth where it meets the thames. Hows it going john, been down to the usual spot today and there was some sort of cleaning going on and the water is realy coloured up and very smelly, just in case your planning a visit? Will be out tomorrow night and let you know how it goes???? good luck. |

Hi Andy,
Had a visit yesterday, few small chub and 3 nice roach 8-10 ounces on trotted maggot, bit busy though so left before 9pm, level was low and clear yesterday, might get down there Friday after work. If there wasn't another angler in the swim there was a dog having a paddle! Still quite a lot of weed coming down. John |

from what i have heard, it is intended to become a safe haven during heavy rain/floods, but these things take time and will happen only as long as they have no
other pressing issues to deal with. They are also due to place coir rafts along bunce`s meadow, overdue due to last years floods, so we have to be patient and
the work will be excellent for the river when it happens, heard that a few barbel are coming out but only to 6lb odd plenty of chub and roach showing will have
a go tomorrow night if ALLOWED haha

Saw that cormorant on Tuesday up in the trees where the herons often are, could have done with a bit more rain last night, but hopefully there's more than
Tuesday when it was lower than usual.

Well done gents... sounds like a pretty good start to the season so far... and yes, I've seen that 4lb barbel down around the Savacentre stretch too, right
on the fast weedy shallows where you'd expect...
