Finally,
There's a skillful angler in Gavin's family......... :-) You didn't post anything on the Kennet thread by the way, hope I don't get altzheimers when i'm 15 years older, terrible watching your rapid decline!!!

Very good angling ........... You will remember that moment !!
Pity that you were handicapped by your old dad ............ if he hadn't been there you would have caught a lot more

When I spoke to Thomas on Saturday morning, he said his dad was pacing up and down the bank, kicking stones in the river saying "i'm bored, this is
boring, what sweets have we got? when can we go home?"

Will
I've been taking him fishing since he was 3 years old and he's now fishing mad. 15 months is a bit young, unless you fancy taking nappies and all the other paraphernalia along (although I suppose you could use the unhooking mat as a changing mat! ). I tried to get his first barbel last year but found he wasn't quite
strong enough to manage the rod then. On one occasion last season he did hook a fish and it quite literally nearly pulled him in. I only just grabbed him and the rod in time before he went in (the wife would not
have been too amused if I drowned our first born), hence the earlier comments about me knocking him out the way from so called "mates" . But you have lots to look foward when you can take your boy; its a very
special time.........carrying enough gear and food for a small army, undoing endless tangles and never able to relax in case he falls in, sticks a hook in
himself (mind you I know a few so called adults who still manage to do that ) or eats the bait ..........but it's all worth it to see
the excitement and wonder on his face.
Will take my 3 year old daughter next. When she heard about Thomas' success she said "I'm going to catch a barbel and it will be much bigger than Thomas'." And she probably will too! Crooky FYI I consciously posted on here as a follow up to earlier posts. Anyway I daren't post about catches on the Kennet in case I get accused of encouraging the masses to decend on the venue. 15 years younger!!!! ..................you must be dreaming. Either that or you've had a very hard
life.
Chubby I let him have 2 fish!! Don't want him to catch more than me do I?

Everyone
Thanks for the kind words - I'll pass them on to Thomas. Will LOL - exactly right! I'm always saying to my wife - "Thomas wants to go fishing on Saturday and I really should take him?" Works everytime because she gets some peace as well.
Only trouble is your fishing trips will not be so relaxing anymore!

Gavin,
You are right about the fishing trips not being so relaxing, I did exactly the same thing with my son though back in those days it was ponds and canals, no end of tangles, hooks in his clothes, fish lost, his struggle trying to unhook fish, but i taught him and it stayed with him and now at 34 he takes me, I hope that Thomas keeps the love for angling... Better still ................ get him a log in ................ and let him read and post!!!!! Took my daugther when she was six and she hated it ..................... she is now 22 and just thinks that I am barbaric .............. perhaps I am ............... but she has never seen a barn owl quartering a meadow or had stoats running and playing between her feet or caught a barbel
