First, you will need a Licence - a standard £25 EA Rod Licence.
Second, you MUST have a Permit or Permission from the particular stretch of river's owner, tenant, club etc. This can vary from several hundred pounds a day on a 5-Star Wessex chalkstream to for-free if the owner gives you permission. Remember that many streams / rivers considered primarily coarse fisheries but which happen hold a few trout do NOT permit (or, at least, their controlling clubs do not permit) fly-fishing / trout-fishing during the Coarse Close Season. You will have to do some asking around locally about the water that you have your eye on... |

I have tried to fish some of the Amalgamated coarse & trout waters before, but not being an accomplished flycaster and the waters not managed as fly waters
(vegetation trimming!) with plenty of casting space always found it difficult. Plenty of Mayflies around at the moment aswell.
I catch more trout from an BA trib on breadflake in the winter than I do roach! |

Kris,
I know what you mean about some of the Amalgamated waters, that's why I said they are any method............I find a good old Lobbie works well ! Which ones have you tried (pm if you prefer). As far as the tributary goes, the Trout there can be suicidal at times ! Cheers Paul M........ |
