Posts: 1260 (26/08/07 10:25) More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Tags : None All, Looking to buy a couple of mid priced (£75 - £90) rods for big river/floodwater conditions. Dont want anything pricey as they will be totally abused and used for leads up to z and big feeders for the severn and ribble. Also dont want to use carp rods. Had at look at the daiwa twilight barbel in 2.25 test, which seems quite good and the wychwood rogue x which to be honest, just looks ansd feels like a carp rod. Havent yet looked at the free spirit big river yet. Any ideas or recommendations, welcome. cheers Wurzel

But over the top for much of the stuff that I do." Take a look at it, though, as I reckon it might be okay for your intended purpose. Out of your suggested "£75 - £90" price-bracket, though. PS - Rods capable of chucking the mega-weights that you're thinking of simply aren't going to be fairy wands or built-cane noodles!

Posts: 92 (26/08/07 11:16) More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	have a look at the berkley f1, it has a 2lb tip, and casts out that sort of weight no problem, also a nice light rod and get two extra tops if you want them, and lifetime guarentee worth a look trust me. I myself use the Korum twin tip with its 1.75 and 2.2 tc top and have found it very good..clive

It is a 2lb tc rod, capable of handling big leads no problem. RRP is above what you want to pay but I managed to get mine new off Ebay for 80 each (got a pair). Otherwise, I think Wychwood do a 2lb tc rod which I haven't used but remember from past threads people saying good things about... Best of luck

For £100 each budget it would have to be the Korums or Drennan Regards Matt

Most of the time I use the 1.5lb tops. The 2lb tops come in for big water. Beyond that, as I wont buy a Peregrine Flood, I have my Kevlar Whisker carp rods but never found the need. I think the 2lb top will handle z as long you dont try far bank fishing - but you would not want to do that in flood anyway would you? As we are discussig flood water, i will recommend the Fox Lifter (trilobe) leads - the only piece of Fox tackle that I can recommend! Go from 2 ounce up to eight ounce. Flat profile holds the river bed and the trilobe ensures rapid ascent to surface - neat bit of flood water gear.

Still not sure, but the fox floodwater barbel duo's are looking favorite along with the daiwa twilights in 2.25 test. I dont expect them to be particularly sweet rods to play fish on, but i suppose thats the trade off. Most of the time in floods i fish the edge or slacks, but there are occasions when it pays to get a bait in the middle of the river otherwise i would have stuck with my infinities cos theyre fine for close in work in a flood. Gonna have a look at those leads as well Daryl. Thanks again. Wurzel
