I was just wondering as there was a peice on them on a news page,and how they are on the increase due to warm weather conditions we are having. Got bitten to peices years ago and would'nt fancie going through that again,it was very uncomfy for over a week. Bob.

I have been using it for several years and have not been bitten in all that time. That included holidays spent in the Maldives and Mauritius where Mossies and Sand Flies can be a real problem!!

The Avon skin care product is totally useless on me but the Jungle Fomula (with DEET) works well. I think if your skin can tolerate DEET then this is the proven one that was developed for the American Army in Vietnam...............mind you they still lost...........I wonder if there are any mozzies in Iraq? I have never met anybody who has found that Citronella makes any difference whatsoever, in fact I think mozzies regard it as a garnish. Deet obviously works, but so does covering yourself in paraffin.

Not necessarily together. used to feed our horses garlic powder to keep the flies off. Used Stockholm Tar to keep the flies off cattle but i wouldn't recommend that, it is evil stuff. I believe marmite works because of the vitamin B Bill

Lets say it seemed like someone was chopping onions up right underneath my face....not that i was weeping or anything. $:\$

Posts: 8599 (31/07/07 15:35) More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	oil of citronmella can be poisonous so be careful, in saying that its also a great mosquito repellent, cats hate it too if its soaked onto cotton wool and stuck opn canes in yer flowerbeds , rubbing a raw onion on your skin also helps, not as good as the oil but definately helps, wasp stings, rub half a lemon and half an onion on the sting and the pain goes in seconds , old wives tales isnt the case here ....j.w if all else fails a bit of cotton mutton cloth (car cleaning cloths) smouldering does the trick too

But, another really good piece advice is Vitamin B1. Start taking it a few days beforehand and every day there afterwards upto the Fish In. It REALLY does work. Mozzies hate the taste and leave you well alone!! Vitamin B1. Consistant anecdotal evidence suggests that mozzies hate the smell of this vitamin. Take 100mg a day, starting a few days before your trip. Thanks, Darrell

Posts: 196 (31/07/07 18:17) More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	there is in the john norris (mainly fly fishing) catalogue a solar powered mossie annoyer, which appears to be about matchbox size, and clip onto clothing. retails at 11 quid, can't vouch for it, but a non-chemical solution. www.johnnorris.co.uk search for w j mosquito annoyer. on the same page are a couple of bug nets which fit over a cap or hat, keeping the bugs out of your mouth. ideal if you fish on your own, because you look like a total prat, and intense laughter can be sensed by barbel, who are not known for telling jokes. dan

Bet i still get bitten alive after using all the above,and it's not going to be pleasant. Thanks for all your replies, Bob.

Knowing your luck you'd create a concoction that represents the all time bestest mossie attractant. On a serious note though, some bites can be real nasty, my missus attended a works family day out earlier in the year, got bitten on the top of her foot and it swelled up to literally double normal size. Couldn't walk for a couple of days - suspect the really nasty bites aren't always mossies though? ATB Mike
