Good luck to everyone who fishes this lovely little river and lets hope we have a good season. I'll be on the bank fairly regularly, so say hello. By the way, there was a very well-attended work party last Sunday that did some good work - interesting to see what difference it makes. Cheers all Peter

River was fairly low with some colour and a bit of a flow. Had a mixed bag - one barbel, and a pair of three pounders (a chub and a pike that picked up my pellet on the retrieve). It turned out to be a very pleasant evening - saw a couple of other fishers - a heron and a kingfisher. I actually packed up before sunset I was so chuffed! Peter

Posts: 254 (18/06/07 18:40) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Back on the bank yesterday for another short evening session - in fact even shorter - not because I caught lots but because steady heavy rain set in, and the new camo poncho that I was road-testing was beginning to get a bit sodden, and so was I. River was in much the same condition as yesterday but not fishing as well, although I did have one almighty pull which I failed to connect with, having put the rod in the rest for a moment while I adjusted my poncho. In my haste to pick it up, I'd forgotten that I'd changed over from my fixed spool reel to a centre-pin. When I 'lifted into the fish' there was a fantastic screeching of the ratchet. By the time I'd wound in the line there was no fish attached! On my way back I passed a very wet fellow angler, but didn't see who it was - could it have been Martin E? Whoever you were, brave man. I was on Burton Mill Pond (on a punt in the rain!), Tenching. Had 28 over the weekend to 6-12. I'll be back on the river later in the year. Going to give the Arun a go also when I get some time. A man at The Covert shop in Petworth is now offering tuition ST tuition on the river. Lovely fish sea-trout, I've fished for them all over the place since the age of 11, commanding an increasingly high - even outlandish - price these days...

My foray into sea-trout fishing last year was rather short-lived and dismally unsuccessful - one visit to the Towey and a few attempts on the Rother - in truth I didn't try very hard - I think I need to invest more time in it if I'm going to take it seriously, so didn't renew the game licence this year - maybe a target for when semi-retirement really kicks in! Meanwhile - another blank on the Rother yesterday. Fished a longer than usual session from 16.30 to closing time - only one piece of excitement - a fish on for about five seconds before dropping off - felt like a chub. A few taps and plucks, but otherwise no action. River had lost some of its colour, but today's rain should bring it back! Peter

Some rubbish coming down made fishing difficult in quite a strong flow. Despite this, plenty of anglers on the bank, with little (if any success) - this one blanked again. Peter

River was lowish, but still quite coloured and a good flow. Had one barbel in first hour then rain came - sat it out for couple of hours till poncho was wet on the inside so called it a day. Peter

I think Pulbrough have a stretch of the Rother just up from it's confluence with the Arun. Above Petworth I'm not familiar with the river at all. Jon.
