There's an honesty box in the gateway - how much is it to fish? Any rules to be aware of?
Any info appreciated.

Does anybody know much about the stretch on the right bank, downstream of the weir in terms of the barbel population and how far down you can fish?

Hi Matt, it Might help if you give us an idea where
this Weir is!!! Honesty box? Weir? Wild guess- Newby Hall? If so my barber does OK there! but I've never fished it, looks nice though. |

Ahh, yes that might've been useful!
Yes, the subject was meant to be Westwick Lock, so you were right in guessing Newby Hall weir. Any info appreciated |

It depends which bank your fishing on how to approach this spot.
The Newby Hall side, the lock & car park, I usually fish hard on the bottom with either meat of pellets on a har rig and a open ended feeder with crushed pellet and some ground bait mix about a rod length out. Weir - Try wading out and free lining a big piece of meat or a bunch of maggots through the gravel runs (great way to approach the weir early season). You may need a little bit of plastercine or a single shot to help get and hold the bait down. I've not had the greatest number of barbel from this location but they are there. I had 12 from 20 visits (but that did include catcing 4 in one evening). If you want a mix bag of fish there are alot of decent size chub and perch to be had when the barbel aren't playing and some very big pike!! I have found that the later on in the season it gets the barbel move further down from the weir into the deeper, slower stretches. All the best this season. Tim |

Might be just me !
They just dont seem to have moved back to there usual haunts. Is anyone else finding the Ure is slow this year? Think i will leave the Halibut pellets at home on my next venture and revert back to the faithfull caster & hemp. |
