I'd agree, I take the train to Treforrest every Tues-Thurs so I get to see the river each way and over quite a few miles. At the moment it's raging and looks like milky hot chocolate. The flow rate over Radyr weir is a good indicator because there are at least 3 different sections to the flow and currently its just flying over in a massive boil.
Any fish at the moment will be hard earned. (Handcrafted Feeders for sale, made to your specifications. Have a look in BFW fishing classifieds.)

Alongside the Taff being unusually full so is this thread. Last year the Taff thread only produced 141 posts. We've nearly got half that already. Does this mean this thread is in for a bumper season?

River rose around 6 inches between 8.20 this morning and 5.20 pm. I went up to Ponty on the train adn took a marker at Radyr weir. It seemed to be around 6 inches higher when I returned down. Not surprising given the amount of rain in ponty today.

Re: on the up | ||

Manage to scrape a blank today up at Gabalfa. River dropped about 4-5 inches whilst I fished. Took temperature readings from midday until 5pm, until 3pm my thermometer registered 13 celsius, from about 3.30 it rose to 14 and stayed there. That was a margins reading, so the water isn't that warm currently.

Re: Weather on the up | ||

Hi all,
Managed a short 3 hour session this afternoon from 2:30 to 5:30. I had to wait over an hour for the first solid bite which produced a small barbel of about 3-08. Another 45 mins before another solid bite but I knew instantly it wasn't a barbel, it was old rubber lips but a nice plump one that was every ounce a 4lb'er, it was certainly bigger than the barbel & in excellent condition. Bumped into Ken as I strolled back to the car & had a little chat. Nice to see you on the bank Ken. The river had fallen a lot since my last visit on Monday, although a lot of swims are still underwater. The river still has a lovely brown colour to it but with better weather forcast for the weekend & lighter winds it looks about perfect if the river keeps the colour. Good luck if you can manage to get out fishing. GreenWellies. |

I don't wish to know what you've caught out there thank you very much. Keep it to yourself please
As your so interested, it was a disaster of a day. The wind blew, the rain fell most of the day and the bloody fish didn't want to know. Oh yeh, and my umbrella is somewhere down in the bay Rayo |

Re: Taff | ||

so you had a good day then because there wasn't a cold in the sky all day on saturday, that is unless gabalfa had different weather from blackweir.

Nah, I don't always fish blackweir, but I did blank there yesterday but I don't know how considering I had my boilies ripped off at dusk. On Friday I blanked at Gabalfa, the week before I blanked at Radyr. Gabalfa is the longest cycle ride for me and its full of much better anglers than me.

Dave, I wondered if anyone would ask as it does sound weird. I get the train from Cathays to Radyr, I have a work season pass for Ponty. Blackweir is a 10 minutes cycle away, rather than the 20 min+ to Gabalfa. Hopefully next season I'll be using a car!

Right then now it's all out war. I've got some new bait and if that don't work for me the only other chance i got is swimming the river to try and catch them. I shall let you know Ken how i get on!

hi mate,
I tried some new bait on Saturday, thought it was going to score but it didn't. Hope you get somewhere! I'm looking forward to the weekend. It'd be great to catch a barbel before the autumn! Ken By the way i have some right charlies to tell you about sometime. (Handcrafted Feeders for sale, made to your specifications. Have a look in BFW fishing classifieds.)

Evening Lads
Fished today with Rayo and his mate Steve, river was rather low and very, very clear Add to that the bright sunshine and I did think I was still on my hol's. Well I did manage to nap myself a couple Ray and Steve didn't get a touch But then again when you have D***H***S like this fishing on the opposite bank to you, I recon it does make it a little bit difficult to get a bite. Without a doubt not a licence between the three who decided to fish opposite Ray and Steve, so maybe a phone call to the club bailiff would sort it? Probably would have!!!!! If he'd had answered his phone. Cheers
