Re: where | ||

your best bet is probably the bridge pub at lenwade they have 600 yrds but you can get day tickets for the common ponds which has a stretch as well good roach and chub on the common ponds stretch never short of a bite i have found but no barbel you need to be on naca water and getting on their is as hard as finding rocking horse @#%$. good luck

NOT the Lenwade Country Hotel
Fishing is OK but the accommodation is rubbish for the prices they charge. About 10 of us stayed there last November. One of the lads did not eat breakfast on the two days we stayed but there was no reduction. When paying the bill on the Sunday morning they argued the toss over a flask of coffee that someone had not paid for. Needles to say we will not be going back. From the look of the place (run down) they need every customer they can get. Tight Lines, Wearyone

Lenwade Country House apparently reopened on the 27th June. No further comment from me on the previous owners and I've not heard anything regarding the new management.

'Big Jim'
Re.my last post regarding the Wensum, on the barbel talk pages; I'm the membership secretary for NACA Ketteringham's Fishery, incorporating the Costessey Point Project and Drayton Low Road fisheries. I invited interested parties to join and/or get involved in this fishery and had only one reply. This BFW member is now in position 6 on the fishery waiting list, is very likely to be asked to join next season and will be invited to fish on a guest ticket, as soon as the river is back within it's banks. 'Rocking Horse p***'? Well, somebody has managed to get a spadeful! Regards Mark |

Hi Mark
A couple of seasons ago maybe i would of jumped at the chance of joining this fishery. Unfortunatly no longer a member of NACA. Anybody else wishing to sample the wensum this stretch is well worth looking at. take a look at this link from the NACA website for more imformation on the project. www.norfolkanglers.com/wensum/index.html I am sure Mark would answer any other questions you may have. BFW member number 6 on the waiting list. Lets hope it continues to be run this way. Richard There not all bad |

Mr Gnome.....
Being a member of the "Lenwade Mafia", not my words, you wouldnt have got in then and certainly not now.... Mark, you may not want to go too public with those statements mate, I hear that one rattling clunk is all it takes for this to change.....Eh Chris? |

Ah mr Frier
Trust you to bring the posting down mate. Cant remember where that saying came from Lenwade Mafia enlighten me. Not to many anglers from Lenwade so must be fighting a loan battle. Dont you fancy a Cosstessey ticket? |

Re: re Belachan | ||

Thanks for your comments Richard and yes I'd be happy to give further info to ANYBODY.
Nick, NOBODY is prohibited/prevented from joining this fishery. Richard may well have his own reasons or other commitments for not wanting to join, but that doesn't detract from our 'open shop' policy. Fishery members that repeatedly break fishery rules, polluters and poachers are the only people that we are opposed to. To reiterate a point, that I've made before on this site; I'm not interested in arguing or trying to score points against anyone, for whatever reason/s. I'm just interested in making a very good fishery, even better and ANYONE is welcome to join, get involved and help. It would benefit the Wensum, if we could all be more constructive and willing to work together. As usual, mail to my inbox for further info on this fishery. Current waiting list 11 people. Regards Mark |

Hi Mark
No problem mate with the comments mate, nice to see you promoting the fishery. One of my best friends has joined the fishery this season will be nice to see how he gets on. As you say i have my own reasons for not joining, i was a member for years and would like to think i done my bit. Even attended a couple of working parties down sayers helping to clear the pools, helping the divers. |

Re: re Belachan | ||

Hi Richard
I'm sure your mate will do okay, the fish are there to be caught. The flood conditions that we've experienced and are still suffering, may well have taken it's toll on this year's fry recruitment, unfortunately. Let's hope for a better May/June next year. Regards Mark |

Fry recrutment | ||

Hopefully with the barbel spawning early there is still hope for some of this years fry to actually survive, weed for cover at this time of year and still plenty of slack water.
Or is this just wishfull thinking???? |

Good Luck all | ||
|
Hi all.
It's bit late to post this but I have been away for a couple of months, but good luck to ALL fishing the Wensum this season. It is a beautiful place and we are lucky to be able to fish the river, no matter where. I haven't been at all this season, but hope to remedy that this weekend. What are the levels looking like now? I imagine they are high but steady, ready to start dropping again - or is that just wishful thinking? As always, if anyone is new to the area, or new to barbel fishing on the Wensum, I am more than happy to answer any questions. Just send me a PM. Andy |

River level | ||

I'm fishing the river at the weekend. Can anyone give me any idea of the state of the river? Is it fishable?

Re: River level | ||

Hi Richard
The river is up and coloured again, due to the recent downpour. About 2 1/2 feet up on normal levels, this evening. Should drop a foot or more by the weekend, but with heavy rain forecast for Friday, Saturday and Sunday you'd be best off packing some waders, waterproofs and a brolly. Bring a boat, if you've got one. Water temp. is still warm, 17.9C I reckon smelly baits should do it, if you can get near the river. Regards Mark |
