Re: Re:First time LSAS Visit

My club book arrived this morning, so I'm wondering if the levels are reasonable enough to try on Thursday
I've read a lot about the Abbey, Bonsors and Osiers stretches on this site in previous seasons and how good they are, but am not sure which to try first. Has anyone been out yet? Any recommendations would be most welcome Regards Roger |

There supposedly is a good stretch on the LEVAS ticket, never fished there but looked round and it looks very nice.

Well, I was contemplating a visit to The Abbey today.
Perhaps I'd best not wear anything red!!! I'll go and have look anyway, because he might not "give a toss" if I'm there Wish me luck! Regards Roger PS Hope he doesn't try any bully boy tactics |

Roger - reminds me of the story of two guys who were going to a fancy dress party dressed as a pantomime cow. They decided to take a short cut across a field and halfway across the bloke at the back said: 'There's a b great bull in this field and I think it's coming this way - what shall we do?'
His mate at the front said: "I'm going to bend down and eat some grass - you'd better brace yourself!' |

Well, despite the "BULL IN FIELD" sign, I did venture on the LSAS stretch "nr Cotes Mill" last night from about 5.00 'til 12.30pm.
Fortunately I managed to survive the evening without being 'gored' I suppose what didn't help were the stop/start showers, which influenced me to stay put (and dry!) in just two likely-looking swims, instead of my original planned roving approach to search the bank more frequently. Anyway, that's now my third trip since June 16 to three different venues with a total of fifteen barbel and no blanks, blimey Regards Roger ps If the weather/water levels allow I hope to try another visit to the Ivel next week (my previous attempts late last season were fruitless |

Re: Flood Conditions | ||

Despite bank-high levels, I managed to wet a line in barely fishable conditions "nr. Cotes Mill" last night,and although they came quite late on ( I started at around 6.00pm) I actually banked a couple of nice barbs: one of 5lb 12 oz at about 11.00pm (Elips pellets) and a better stamp of fish at exactly 8.00lb., also on Elips, just on midnight
Having (somewhat optimistically)envisaged getting on The Trent at Thrumpton ( then phoning Muskham, as well as Cromwell Lock) to learn what unfishable raging torrents there were Cheers Roger |

Does anyone fish the Soar on the Nott's Anglers Book?
Are there Barbel in this stretch? I've spoken to the treasurer and he didn't know a great deal about the stretch and the website just mentions Bream! |

I tried down at the weir near barrow and that was going like a steam train. i have also had a couple of sessions in thompsons meadow and another stretch near cotes mill!!!. Am i missing something or do the barbel on the soar not eat halibut pellets!!!!!!!!!!!!!(or luncheon meat for that matter!!!) Can someone point me in the right direction as to where to fish and what bait is pulling the fish out... I'm trying to go this evening for a few hours so fingers crossed.....as i can hear the trent in the distance calling me!!!!!! tight lines!! adam |

Re: Nott's Anglers Book

The NAA stretch is slow(ish) and deep(ish) as the river backs ups before the against locks and Radcliiffe weir that are a couple of miles downstream. I've carp fished the NAA stretch several times and have taken plenty of good size bream and small chub but never a barbel. Never seen anyone barbelling on the NAA water either.
To be honest I don't think there would be many barbel on that stretch but it might throw up the odd fish and they would unlikely to have been caught before. If you did fancy a go, have a look on the downstream side of the dyke, it looks a lot more fishy than the upstream stretch. BTW - Look out for the bailiff, he's a proper funny s*d! |

There was quite alot of rubbish going down(((((where is it all coming from and where does it all go!!!)))))) And the colour was a very dark brown. When is all this rain going to stop so i can a good quality session in...?????????????? I blanked agin yesterday and now have seven sessions in and only about three bites.....which were probably rubbish anyway... i know if i keep looking ai am going to find where the fish are holed up but until i do its going to be some more b***** fustrating sessions!!!! tight lines anyone catching off the soar?????????????????? |

LSAS Tickets | ||

Went to the tackle shop in Loughborough to buy my LSAS ticket only to find it has been knocked down and is now a building site! Has the chap moved to another shop, if so could someone let me know where it is? If he hasn't then who is selling LSAS tickets this year? Thanks, John.

You can get the LSAS book from Bennett's at Mountsorrel. This is the only tackle shop in the Loughborough area now I think. Scaz |

Re: LSAS Tickets | ||

Adam I agree but I went to my local tackle shop to day for 4 differant items and came away with only 1 and that was a it'll do job rather than what I really wanted. The shop owner didn't seem to care that they were out of stock of certain types of basic hook paturns and leads. I came home went on the internet (not ebay) and got all I wanted and only had to pay £1.50 p&p the draw back if any is I have to wait a day or two but I can manage that. I'm not saying all tackle shops are the same but I get the impresion that my local shop is far more interested in selling the more expensive items and don't care about the sundre items. I know he'll get a bigger profit on a larger item but I feel the small items are just as important perhaps even more so to get customers coming back. My nearest shop is only about a 15 mile round trip but if I'm only after a small bit of kit even that can be a real pain and waste of time and effort to find when you get there theyv'e not got what you want and even more so don't seem to care don't make any rush to try and get what you want or even offer a close alternative.
I do still try to support my local tackle shop but I can't say how much longer I'll do so for small items. I will still go for my bigger or more expensive bit's of kit because if there is a problem with a bit of kit it's easyer to sort out. Any way thats my two penneth and enough said Scaz |
