water level | ||

Our friend at betchworth weir appears to be playing with the water level again. On thursday 1pm at brockham the level by the bridge was a trickle down the
centre, same time friday it was touching both banks.
Anyone fishing upstream notice anything? sowerbutt |

I was on the bank when this happend a couple of years back. It was mental. In a couple of hours the level dropped to well below summer levels, but nothing like
how you've described Michael.
Perhaps we could ask the quary if we could borrow some of their dynamite. Or perhaps one of those quaries is now full? |

Nice to hear from you jon,I am all for blowing up the weir.
Two friends fished our stretch last saturday.They had a number of small chub on bread,plus roach on maggot, but no barbel. It certainly appears that the chub are reforming, but where are the barbel we stocked? It was a terrific fish you caught last year Jon, many congratulations. |

Micheal,
I know a few of those Barbel have been caught, not loads, but that's often the way with the small ones, they evade capture, and then suddenly start showing once they're a few pounds... My concern would be that the cormorants in the area have taken a liking to them. The match guys say there is a lack of fish of a certain stamp, which may be as a result of the birds. It's either tiny roach and dace, or big chub from the area at Castlefields lake. Jon... |

I've never seen a cormorant on the mole, but seen them flying over. But like i've said in previous post's there seems to be a lack of chub this
year
Anyway was out for the first time last week for quite awhile. Managed to lose a very big barbel, don't know how big but i had it on for a couple of minutes before a hook pull. Hook came back with two silver scales on it, i don't think i foul hooked it as the scales were very lightly hooked. Anyway after feeling gutted, 30mins later a 13lb 6oz barb found my bait Millie |

Brockham waters.
It would appear this stretch of water is now tidal, is there tide table published? |
|||
Dodge |
Tidal Mole | ||
|
From past observations high tide is about every 20-30 minutes - time taken to reach low tide depends on the general flow - anything from 5 - 30 minutes.
Sowerbutt - the trickle of a couple of weeks ago could have been caused by the gates and side stream being shut to allow some downstream side maintenance. But as I haven't renewed my CAS ticket for Betchworth and as it inexplicably runs from 1st March to end Feb I won't be down there again this season (all 8 days of it) but it sounds like the hydro weir is running again. May renew next year or maybe the application from Brockham will drop on my mat (cough, cough, Michael!) Members of Carshalton, Betchworth and Dorking rise up and complain to the EA!! Dodge |

Dodge ,my CAS membership ran out on the 3rd , I am not renewing this year either , waiting for the same letter as you .
Giving the Thames a go tomorrow ,seeing if I can get one before the close . |

Excuse my lack of knowledge - but why join Brockham, when we all know there's practically no fish in the river - and any that were stocked are really
small, and best left to grow. Sure there may be the odd one or two that survived the incident of a few summers back, but is it worth the effort???
