Re: Tidal Trent | ||

looking at the forecast sunday/monday look spot on for it to be dropping with plenty of colour but the river can surprise you this time of year, it can rain for days and you get to the river and its only slightly up and still relatively clear

Afternoon all,
Long time no post, so I trust everyone is well? Looking forward to opening day, and with the conditions looking positively peachy, I presume the banks will be full to bursting? Feeling a little stressed at work this afternoon, so I wondered if anyone could provide me with a laugh to lighten my mood somewhat, by letting me know if the rumours of people camping in Collingham car park are once again, true?! Regards, G. |

Re: Tidal Trent | ||

its my opinion that the barbel in the stretch move up and down in shoals depending on the amount of food in front of them, the weir pegs just seem to me to be a self forfilling proficy of more anglers= more bait= more time shoal spent in that area, also more anglers means no chance of keeping fish to yourself so whole of grapevine knows of any action, anglers could be heaving out fish left right and centre a mile down and nobody would know

Re: Tidal Trent | ||

Correction Adam, angers ARE heaving fish out left right and centre a mile down, (not close season obviously/hopefully), and have been for many a year.
With the exception, it seems, of me. Most anglers, the circus aside, value an element of confidentiality, not necessarily 'secret squirrel', just not as well voiced... ...and for good reason. Regards, G. |

Re: Tidal Trent | ||

its pretty sad when you have to camp out the week before the season starts to get in the weir field . you can go further dowh the river and possibly have a greater chance of picking up better quality fish its a myth that you have a better chance of picking up bigger fish in the weir field if you work out how much its fished through the season how many really big fish does it turn up.
plus apart from the pegs 1,2and 3 it doesn`t produce a great deal in the day where as the further down you go the more chance you have of catching in daylight hours because there`s less pressure on the fish . anyway good luck guys cheers si |

Re: Tidal Trent | ||

Simon,
To be honest, I think it's to do with the number of fish the weir peg produces, rather than the size of fish. That along with the whole stigma of the peg itself. In fact, near the beginning of last season, I was down there with my dog chatting to one of the circus members, apprently they were from Bradford, had never fished it and were there for 10 days. I get the impression the majority of early season weir fishers, are from afar as appose to local and don't really know the stamp of fish that the weir produces. Mind, leadcore and backleading with swingers and carp sticks on 1a does provide me with a good chuckle. I'm perfectly happy for the circus to stay where it is and leave me and my spots in peace. Regards, G. |

Re: Tidal Trent | ||

yes the heavy leads and bobbins always amuse me
i know what you mean about amounts of fish you can catch in the first few pegs and while everyones up there the pegs elsewhere will be free i won`t be out till weds evening so i`m hoping for rain over the weekend i haven`t even decided which stretch to fish yet! cheers si |

Re: Tidal Trent | ||

Its dropping and the rubbish is not a problem, and those who did not run away at the sight of a bit of water should have filled their boots.

Re: Tidal Trent | ||

Morning all,
Got to the river early Saturday morning, after struggling like hell for 3 hours with debris coming down, I decided to give it up as a bad job. Struggled to hold bottom with 3 ounces and when I did, it was soon dislodged by the various rafts of rubbish coming downstream. Not a bite nor a fish. Not to worry though, glorious to see the river in such good shape for June, and I imagine once the rubbish had cleared, she would fish like a dream. I'll be down there again one evening this week to make up for lost time Anybody confirm the levels at the present time? Regards, G. |

Re: Being a Noddy | ||

fished today, river high but looked great, should have emptied the place but rods, feeders, leads and line to light, left heavy gear at home in some braindead sprint to river as i only had a few hours to go at.
Ended up with two 5/6lbers but seemed to spend all day rerigging and replacing about a dozen feeders and hooks lost in bankside vegetation |
