Out on the river ystd, but not after boris. Great levels, plenty of carp around! Barn owl out hunting at 2pm, to wet at night to hunt I suppose.

Spent a couple of hours on the Ivel on Sunday afternoon.. Managed one Bream for my trouble - first fish of the season and probably the first of many Bream!

Re: Ivel | ||

Just managed a run of three blanks (short evening sessions) on the Ivel - not a tap!
Anyone else having any luck? The river is up & coloured (by Ivel standards) and I really expected to hook something - even another Bream! Declan |

Re: Ivel | ||

Hello Declan,
The river has been fishing very slow so far this season, possibly due to the fish still spawning in the 1st week. I've only heard of about 6 Barbel caught so far this season. Regards Simon |

Hi Simon,
Maybe i'll stick to the Ivel for the next couple of weeks on the off-chance they `switch-on' while my baits in the water! Declan |

Aha i think i spoke to you (Blanking bloke) the other night when you were on your way home.
I fished the Ivel at Blunham that night walked right up to the bridge with a load of bait just dropping a few halis and cheese paste in each swim. Started to fish it giving each swim oubout 30 mins, but nothing, i should of stayed there as we all know the fish dont really switch on until later. Had to move to Biggleswade common to get out of having a blank. Not a Barbel, but a nice chub. |

Re: Ivel | ||

Managed another evening on the Ivel last night.. No other anglers around (or Barbel for that matter).. Two decent Chub saved me from a blank (both from your swim `Zilla!)..

Keep up the good work fella. Right place right time and all that! |

Re: Ivel Barbel fishing

Hi gents,
I'm new to barbel fishing as such, and would be grateful for a few pointers for the Ivel (and nearby Ouse) little things like best conditions, baits etc.... as it is probably the closest stretches of river to me with a decent head of fish in it. Also which is the best club membership to go for to cover the most water? I think it is only polite to enquire who is doing what so as not to tread on anyones toes..... Hopefully i'm not asking too much... |

Re: Ivel Barbel fishing

Vauxhall Angling Club will give you Radwell, Felmersham & Sharnbrook on the Ouse, plus parts of the Ouzel and lots of stillwaters.. They've got a stretch of the Ivel at Sandy and are affiliated to the IPA so all their stretches are covered also (Biggleswade etc.)..

Re: Ivel Barbel fishing

Thanks Blankingbloke, I have just invested in a Vauxhall ticket for me and my better half, so i guess i will be doing a fair ammount of bank walking.
Are there any areas to avoid? like places where cars are targetted or areas where the fishing is @#%$? Would be very grateful for any pointers or tips which will help me along the way. |

Re: Ivel Barbel fishing

)..Hi Dinger,
To be honest, parking-wise, anywhere on a VAC ticket is reasonably safe (at least as safe as anywhere else these days).. In fact parking on the Radwell complex by the pits is as safe as any spot you're likely to find.. Fish-wise, nowhere is completely barren (although thats not to say Barbel are in every location - you should do alright with the Chub!).. Have a read through previous years Ivel/Ouse threads in the archive, walk the bank and chat to people.. I've found in general most guys are really helpful (even `secret-squirrel' Ousemeister off the Ouse thread beleive it or not Tight lines, Declan |

What reputation's that Stewart - being a sad, married, middle-aged bloke, reduced to surfing the net on a Friday night?
(bit like myself then!) Might send you an email on Monday - a bit of info you could confirm for me if you're feeling helpful! Declan |

I'm slowly getting over my `cattle-phobia' Stewart.. It's a three step program ;
1. Eat One 2. Fish Next To One 3. Cuddle One I'm currently at stage 1, and hope to progress to stage 2 by the end of the season.. |
