Chill out, I knew of the Loddon and it's fine reputation for producing Barbel 20 years ago when I lived in Bolton, I hardly think after numerous articles in the angling press, a whole section in the Barbel Catchers, etc. etc. it is ever going to be much of a secret........good luck this year Ian, will say hello if I see you. Yes of course the Loddon is well known - I don't think that was the honourable Mr Tucker's point. See it too many times before. Someone makes a post about how great the Loddon fishing is (accurate or otherwise) and before you know it the place is packed.  Week later they all move on having found the Loddon can be a very fickle mistress.Your average "lesser spotted Loddon angler" is a shy, retiring and gentlemanly creature who the relishes the beauty and tranquility of this great little river. He doesn't want his silent contemplation of a motionless rod tip disturbed by riff raff. Mr Tucker Sent you a reply to your email. Last year we had a stately peacock to raise the tone of the river bank .............the envy of the rest of the Loddeners...........til some bugger nicked it (or ate it)..... Some blamed me for that being from Kent..... the land of the Pikey............ We prefer takeaways rather than meat on the hoof................ Not too long now. Do hope its not too packed Ian T |

I think the point being made is....why not just say....The Loddon, rather than be specific about places and swims. Unlike the local Maidehead reporter............... Hi all you Loddoners, - and Pikeys
Had 2 Chub yestersay for my efforts but who cares i just had to be there, 6 fishing on the stretch i was on 4 of them pikeys - nice blokes though, nobody caught any barbel  but the river looked perfect there you go thats the Loddon for you, she's a bitch sometimes but i love her all the same.Have a great season you lot, hope she makes your dreams come true. LOST LANDING NET | ||

Dear All
Managed to lose my landing net yesterday. Resting a barbel in the net, turned round to sort out the unhooking mat and when I turned back the whole net had disappeared! Luckily the fish escaped from the net and I was able to safely land and return it.It was too risky a spot to try and go in and find it. I suppose it's sunk and long gone. But if anyone does find it on the RDAA Whistley Mill stretch now or in the future, I would be eternally grateful for its return. Apart from that it was a great day. 2 barbs and 2 chub of 5lb+. Cracking start!  Out again tomorrow (day of work).Gavin |

Hi All,
9lb 11oz Barbel on opening day plus a 4lbish chub, couldn't agree more with people about the river condition, best I have seen it in years at the start of the season. Surprising to hear you mention the stretch you were fishing Gavin, especially after the stick you and another gave me for mentioning the same stretch during the close season, hypocritical ar$e ............. Ian.

@ Ian - if you were the preson who caught the 9.11 after trying 10 swims then you saw me on saturday under an evo brolly.
I stayed for the night and finally managed to winkle out a 5lber and lost another (which was, of course, massive). my friend turned up and settled him in a swim where he preceded to catch his first ever barbel of about 8lb. he could not stop smiling!!! brilliant. safely returned after suitable recouperation in the landing net, and a barbel fisherman was newly created! just as long as he doesn't keep catching the big 'uns.. cheers, simon |

That was me, what a tiring day, I must have walked 3 miles on Saturday through THAT GRASS  , great to get off to a start though, congrats on your catch, the one you lost was probably a new river record Will say hello next time, good to put faces to names. Taking a mate of mine later this week on a different stretch, he's not fished for many years, let's see if he gets the bug...... Ian. |
