Got the first blank out of the way - couple of hours fishing from midnight

had a blank on the 16th but a mate caught a 4lb chub on spicy prawn boille wrspped in paste.on the 17th i had a 3lb chub, 6oz roach and a
 z perch all under the tree above the footbridge on the maggot feeder HAPPY DAYS

At 6lb 4oz it might not have been massive but it made my opening day ! Put up a really good scrap too ! I've tried to add the photo of it to the Cherwell Gallery - will see later if I managed to achieved that !! Not sure date of next trip , but it wont be long !! Hope to see you soon. Dave. |

Had 4 hours yesterday, all above the railway bridge. Picked up 1 chub at 4lb
z on halibut pellet.... Alas still no barbel. The water was a beautiful tea colour and the level looked perfect. It will happen, some time.... hopefully!!!

Hi All
Nice to now there are some other Cherwell barbellers about. I am having a bit of a late start this season due to holidays and work so I am not going to be get going until the end of June. I started at Shipton a few years back and had some nice barbel from there. I have just got a ticket for my second season on the GX section further down. Can some of you locals clarify what water is now available on the Shipton length. The first field before the rail bridge. Is that field still part of the B and D ticket. I never fished any further up than the concrete weir where the Cherwell and the Canal meet. Can you get access to the other bank at all. If you park at the Rock of Gilbraltor and enter the field (I think it is called the wides), how far can you get round on that bank. All the best, Alan |

Quick 5 hr morning session on Saturday resulted in one Chub 4lb15oz. River well up from previous week but very fishable. Didn't see another angler on the river. Away for a week now so thats it till July for me. Tight lines . Dave.

Went and tried below Kidlington last night,the river was well up and coloured.
Flow was pacey but not unfishable,only had a couple of hours and didn`t have a bite(wrong place,wrong time I guess) water fell an inch while I was fishing but then we had the rain again last night so think I`ll pop down over the weekend and see if theres any change. tite lines to all |

Had a session last night on a steadily rising Cherwell - nice to catch up with Mr Boyd
No Barbel between us out but did have a couple of good bites that didn't connect properly - been trying out a new hoolink material - probably not to blame but I have had a couple of big bites that didn't connect .... Anyway - by the time I left I had to wade through 18 inches of water in my hiking boots  Also, saw a large 5lbish dead chub in the flood water - didn't look like predator damage but there are mink on the stretch. Anyway, somebody went back out tonight and after swimming to the river had a very special session - well done mate They'll be like buses now - you'll wonder why it took so long.Cheers
