Good luck to all anglers in the coming season, I thought I would start a new thread on the site as soon as possible then we can all keep up to date. The river is like a torrent at present. Tight Lines

Many Apologies matchstickman, did not realise someone had already started a new thread OOPS. Up to you if you wish just let everyone know and we will use your thread. As long as we all just use one it will help us share the info.

Passed over the R Wear about 2pm-ish Thursday (Cocken Bridge ) and it looked to have about an extra 6ft in and was a horrible coffee colour, and its hardly stopped raining since.
There is a chance it will be top of the flood banks by the 16th June. Just as well I have the mother in-law staying to stop any bad tempered arguments with the wife At least Northumbria Water won't have to release any extra water this year to get the salmon up the rivers for the 16th. If they're killing salmon they wont be killing barbel, hopefully. Tight Lines, Wearyone

Will see what happens weather wise over the next 48 hours but if the forecast is correct the river will be totally unfishable.
It is currently bordering on unfishable now so any more rain and I think were goosed. Typical this will be the start of my 5 day off period and look what happens !!!!!!! |

Barbel reaper will be going down at 15:00 hrs if you fancy getting wet I will meet you at the sewarage car park just over the little footbridge (where the salmon men park). Might as well have a look. I am just sitting in the house twiddling my thumbs.

I missed ur last post and ive just got bk from there. Looks good at mo but if the hevens open again it may be to much. Its dropped down since this morning so i think its 4 ft up .But worth a go might have to use stronger tackle but will see..

Re: wear | ||

I think the next 12 hours will dictate if it will be fishable. The height is not to worrying at the moment, it is the heavy colour and the amount of debris coming down.

Hi gazza i did notice that im keeping my eye on the rain fall around the wear source looks ok at mo on satalite rainfall so hope it dosent get bk to downpour stuff but just to wet a lead will be good enough for me

Best of luck to one and all fishing the Wear this season. Anyone braving it tonight deserves it! Looking at the weather forecast, I think I'll wait a bit longer for my first session. Better safe than sorry.

Hi all Had a look down this morn at 4.30am, just as well i never took me kit as the river is over the weir again with alot of big and half trunks coming down. And with the weather for more rain i think it will be late next week before its fishable . Not to worrie gonna do a bit of armchair fishing instead and good luck to whom is going for it quick tip use a brick....

Hi All,
Had my first barbel of the season from the Wear today. The first 10-14 (pb) and an 8. Not had a barbel from the Wear for a few years (not really tried much) so they were especially welcome. Magic! Jeff PS Photo in the gallery. |
