Gratz to all you guys catching at the moment!
Im offshore, looking forward to getting home and wetting a line sometime after 5th July. Just wondering though, is this Blackwell stretch on the Tees a club water or free stretch? Any other good spots around the Darlington area? I assume the Blackwell bit is near that roundabout as your on the way out of Darlo going toward the M1/A1? What are the limits for the stretch and wheres the best access to it? Cheers! Mustela |

Re: River Tees | ||

Welcome to the Tees thread mate. Blackwell is a free stretch. Yes, you've got the right idea where the stretch is. Best access is by going down the road where the Spar shop is (the yellow road with "Blackwell" on it on this map)Blackwell. If you're coming from the Carmel Road South end (where the Spar shop is) access is about half way down on your right through the woods. When you reach the river the free stretch is upstream to Broken Scar.

Chech, you'll have that new rod christened with a boris in no time mate
Pitty Im still waiting for the first one of the summer, Oh well out Sat and Sun to try again. If not the Chub will always commit suicide and not let me blank. Weathers supposed to turn a little nasty on Sat afternoon and the rest of the weekend, with the forcast for another 50mm of rainfall in places. No doubt we'll be one of em !!!! The Trent trip is off for another weekend, as I'd only have to travel just past Leeds to fish it John |

Had a short session on the sandbanks last night, river has dropped right down as Mook says so I was able to hold at the bottom of the fast run. Had 4 Chub between 2 and 3lb, lost another and let something bigger snag me up in a root system (bloody amateur)

The Weekend | ||

Yeh but with all the rain forcast you can bet that it'll be in the fields again come Sat evening/Sun morning. British Summertime, cannot beat it.
We'd only be moaning if it was blazing hot and the Tees was looking like it was going to dry up. At least while theres all this water around the Barbs will be packing on the weight and be in peak condition come those drier conditions. It also gives you a chance to hone those floodwater fishing techniques you've always wanted to try in the summer floods (That are supposed to be a rare occurance). Im going to have a Dawn start on Sat 4am till dinnertime, see if I can miss the river rising during the day if it does hammer down, then on Sun will have a look at the level and give it a bash if it's not too far up. If anyone else fancys a bash let me know you'll be more than welcome. John |

Priceless! | ||

A young Scottish lad moved to London and went to Harrods looking for a job.
The manager asked "Do you have any sales experience?" The lad answered "Aye - loads, I was a braw salesman back in Auchtermuchty". The manager liked the lad and gave him the job. His first day on the job was challenging and busy but the lad got through it. At 5 o'clock, after the store closed it's doors, the manager came down and asked the lad how many sales he made that day. The lad said "Just the one". The manager gasped and shouted "Just one! Our sales people average 20 or 30 sales a day. How much was the sale for...?" "£124,237.64" replied the lad. The manager choked and exclaimed "£124,237.64, what the hell did you sell him?" The lad explained "Well, first I sold him a small fish hook, then a medium fish hook, and then I sold him a new fishing rod. Then, I asked him where he was going fishing and he said down the coast ... so I told him he would need a boat. I took him to the boat department and I sold him a twin-engined Power Cat. Then he said he didn't think his Honda Civic would pull it, so I took him to the car department and I sold him a Range Rover". The manager, said "You mean to tell me .... a man came in here to buy a fish hook and you sold him a boat and 4x4?" "Nah" replied replied the young lad ... "he came in here to buy a box of tampons for his wife and I said well, since yer weekend's f**ked, you might as well go fishing" |

One happy Camper | ||
|
Went out last night at around half nine to Blackwell and fished till 7am this morning. Yeh I met the lad on the way down as they were going home. He showed me the photo on his mobile phone, a nice long, broad fish, pitty about it being on a mobile and at quite a distance, would have been nice to see a real close up of it !!!!!
Well People, I had a blindin nights barbel fishing. Set up for around 10pm, nothing for the first hour, then I hooked a fish that just hugged botttom, felt it kicking, then for the second time in a row another hookpull Thought typical, just going to be one of those nights again. That will have spooked the rest. But there were fish rolling in the swim so I sat back down and gave it another hour. This time the rod arched over and the bait runner started, only for me to pick up and strike, "Nothing" But at 1:45am the rod just wrenched over and I finally managed to connect with something solid. After a spirited fight which saw the fish try its hardest to get me in the bushes on the far side I slid the net under what I thought was a small barbel, did I get a nice supprise when I lifted the net. A nice fish of 9lb 3 oz. Well happy !!!!! Then I had another dropped run at 2 ish and at 3:30am had a few little taps then "WAM" around the rod went again, another good fish on, that again went hard for the bush on the opposite bank to my left. In the net and on the scales 9lb 6 oz this time. Both fish have been submitted to the gallery. One very happy boris basher this morning John |
