Warren, never heard of any boris coming out of Bluebell area.
Nige, seen BIG barbs at Harrold, never hooked one there but did get PB chub at 6lb2oz last year when it was on the Chellington ticket. Bob, last night had a knock in the weir and on the gravel by the footbridge to Brightwell, absolutely nothing of the backbrook join with lock cut River has really dropped and flowing a lot slower, 40g feeder held bottom lovely even in the weir. I have notice that there are a lot less snags then there was in winter, that bothers me a bit as it would suggest that most of the veg in the river has been dislodged making it even more barren than it was in winter! Oh how I love climate change and these new developments making more surface run off which the rivers cant cope with Now I'm off to find a Class 55 Deltic |

Re: Nene | ||

Bob, went to the Ise valley to do a bit of train spotting, saw a class 59 hauling cement just afterwards the Drennen Avon 1.5TC (2oz tip) I happened to be holding twitched and to my suprise a 3lb chub was swimming off with a worm in its mouth. Inspired I went to the Nene at Lilford to chase bream, sat in the heavy rain with the quiver tip (4oz) bent right round, it twitched and a 3lb4oz chub was eating worms.
Looks like the bites are finally coming back so no more trains and back to trying to find the elusive Nene Boris!!! |

Bob,
Tell them about my carp...........go on.....tell em. |

Re: Nene | ||

So Titus was it one of those Nene 30s that cruise around laughing at bait and pretending they dont exist, or, was it a tiddly little double?
|

Titus Aducas |
Re: Nene | ||
|
At just about double figures it was a tiddler; very welcome though, even if it was a bit of a surprise coming out of the fastest part of the weirpool, especially as it was the first time I have ever wet a line in this river

Re: Nene | ||

Titus, there are some really good carp in the Nene if you are lucky enough to find them, double is a damn good start! All I ever find these days is chub, bream and pike; the carp and barbel are very ellusive.

Re: Nene | ||

Noddy,
Believe me when I say there was no skill on Titus's part, If it wasn't for that master angler, Bob, telling him exactly where to cast the Muppet would have had another embarrassing blank. |

Re: Nene | ||

"that master angler Bob"
You Ringstead syndicate boys should try the W&DAC quarter of a mile upstream, a pint for anyone who can find a minnow between the lock cut and railway bridge, its as barren as the Saharra! (pike and roach on the pole don't count) One day a fish worth catching will come out of it. Bob, see you soon for another session of blankety blank on the Wellingborough water ( |

Re: Nene | ||

Update on my so called "hook pull" it was in fact a foul hooking, as this fish has now been caught and clearly showing the signs of the damage done. It also had damage to it's mouth where another hook had pulled from it's lips - a carp angler had his hook bent straight not long ago. Anyway it's a double and looks to be greedy.............maybe this weekend
Chances are I'll get a carp though as they seem to be coming out as well, well done Titus on the baby carp, lucky really as the rod tip was knocking all over the place because of the bream that were there, incredible to think you would catch big bream right in the wier like that but they are there and a blooming pain to boot. Re: Nene | ||
|
Hook straightening is a problem in the Nene, some of this could well the big carp or angry barbs, some is junk and snags.
Foul hooking is a prob to this season, maybe the currents are throwing the hooks around, I had a sub 1lb chub through the pectral on Sunday and one similar on Sat. I'd be interested if anglers on fast flowing rivers have this problem. If you want a frantic fight try a bream hooked thru the dorsal fin! |

I do know for a fact that when Perio Mill (next to Bluebell) was a trout fishery some 10 years ago barbel were stocked into mill race area.

Has any fish come out of the weir at Orton Mere, i know the rivers been up quite a bit, but iv'e seen a few anglers on the bank. Not been down there yet, so may give it a go when the waters drop.

Re: Orton Mere | ||

Jules,
You need to fish it before it drops, the fishing has started to slow down here because the level is dropping. I know of 7 fish which have been taken during the flooding we have had. Best of luck. Bob |

Re: Orton Mere | ||

Will do Bob. So what are they feeding on? Spam a usual. I suppose with the water being high they are quite close in, probably up to the wall.
Better take a load of weights down as its normaly snag city. might try this new bait from Sonu baits called Hali Hookers (Halibut Pellets) just put them straight on the hook and they stay on even though they're covered in glug. Tested them out the other day down Alwalton on the backwater. The river was up about 2 ft and a collegue from work hoisted out a 17lb 2os common carp, what a beauty. There are a few Barbel in the small weir down there, plus a good head of chub upto 6+ |
