Well after 3 months of short sessions and not a sniff of a barbel, finally three hours on the lower around sunbury produced a bream of 5lbs and a Barbel of
around 7 1/2 lbs this morning. I'm chuffed, with one day remaining till the end of the season i thought i would have to wait until june to see another
barbal in the landing net. I can put my rods to bed for the closed season with a happy smile on my face.

Well done, great result to end this term with. Its been a brute of a season on the Thames so any fish has proved hard earned.

Thanks Davsurb, This season really has been strange, I have had a high of 5 barbel in one sitting, but to many miserable lows, where you could not buy a bit,
the Thames has been so frustratingly hard to many times this season it seems. Having talked to other anglers on the lower, those summer floods have a fair bit
to answer for, i seen very few fry in the usual summer shallows, (Mind you with those floods there weren't to many summer shallows), which does not bode
well. Anyway That barbel could have weighed 2lbs and i would have been chuffed to bits this morning. Anyway just hope the thames has a more settled summer when
the new season arrives.
Steve ps anybody found the boards slow lately

Umm!! dawn start, fish rolling allover the place, nice flow, colour and no crud in the water, but not a bite untill 8.45, hooked a barbel only for the hook to
pull near the netDOH. A few bream through the day and into dark.Oh well, out again tomorrow, last chance saloon and all that!!

Thames Bloke, well done mate, I know what you mean. I had my first ever Loddon fish last Friday at 9lb 2oz, it could have been half a pound for all I cared, I
was, and still am absolutely chuffed ! I followed it up last Sat night with a nice low double on the Thames and if I do not get another one tomrrow night I
will be more than happy with my run in to the end of the season and with the fish I have had this side of Christmas, highlighted by the 14lber I had a couple
of weeks ago, now there's a target to beat this year !
It has been a different story for me this season to some of you guys on the Lower, it has been a cracker, and I am disapointed it's ending but I am looking forward to the break as well though. Fingers crossed I can add to my final tally tomorrow night, if it's even fishable after this rain tonight that is ! Good luck everyone ! J

Steve,
Lovely fella. Well done Overall a very strange season, clearly remembered for all the summer floods of course. I believe a record breaking season for the WBC boys from the middle
to the lower river... big barbel, stonking carp, big pike, and of late, lots of big perch. I wonder what next season holds for us.
"A mound of earth on Walton Breck Road was created for the growing numbers of fans to watch the team. It was called the 'Spion Kop' after a
battle in the Boer War six years earlier. It was not the only Kop - low hill in Afrikaans - nor the first. But it would become the greatest......."

After yesterdays indifference, today was much better, 1 chub, 20 bream and 2 barbel, 8lb 7oz, 9lb 14oz, I could have carried on slaughtering the bream, but
there,s only so much slime a man can take!!!! A nice way to end, time for all those neglected jobs around the house(inbetween the flyfishing/seafishingetc).
Was nice to put faces to names this year, always good to meet and exchange ideas etc, look forward to the next fish-in. Peter |

Well, just back from my last Bertie session of the season, had a great evening and managed 2 nice Barbel of 9lb + to close the season off with, very, very
happy with that ! Great company and great fishing. The Thames iwas in fine form this evening...
What a season, part of me is sad to see it end as it has been my first full season from start to finish in many years and I have thoroughly enjoyed every minute of fishing, even the gruellers ! I have enjoyed meeting new people and of course learing new tricks ! Thanks to all you guys on here, look forward to this coming season, got Barbel withdrawels already.... What a cracking River the Thames still is, I have had a stonker, all told I have had 55 Barbel this season, highlights being a 14.4, a 14 and a 13.9 but others of 12.8 x2, 12.4 x2, a few 11 pounders and a fair amount of 10lb fish, with a few pushing the 11 pound mark. Each and every Barbel I caught was an absolute pleasure though, regardless of size, I enjoy catching 3lb fish as much as I do 14lb fish.Other Whiskers I Had were 6 off the Kennet including a 13.2 and an 11.8 and my first Loddon Barbel of 9.2 last week, making a grand total of 62 Barbel !. Add to that other fish form the Thames, 2 Carp, 17.8 and 15.4, and over a hundred Pike up to 27.4, a Zander, some fine Perch and many Bream and Chub to 6.1 it is fair to say that I have enjoyed more than my share of fish this season from the Thames and I have some way to go to beat it next year, but I am grateful to Old Father this term that is for sure and if I catch half as much next season I shall be very happy. Cheers everyone, roll on June the 16th !!!!! J |

Well i finally managed a short 2 hour session myself last night, had to as it was the last day. Fished from 7 til 9 on the lower at Weybridge. Water had
dropped about a foot during the day, so I was told by another angler just packing up, although still needed 5oz to hold bottom mid river. Managed one bertie of
8lb 8oz, increadibly hard fight. When it was first hooked it did not scrap much, I thought it was a bream, but when it came close the bank it gave me one of
the hardest fights I have ever had from a fish.
I have not fished the Thames much this season, probably around 10 visits, however, I have caught Barbel on all but one visit. Old Father has been good to me this season too. I have had one of my best seasons ever if you count quantities of fish, not just from the Thames, but from the Medway and Hampshire Avon too. I shall be fly fishing for Bass in the close season, so lets hope I have as good a time fishing for them as I have the Barbel this year. Tight lines everyone for the 16th June |

Well done Jutt and meatman, Now the closed seasons here, my fishing will be up at my parents ( norfolk )where i will target Bass of the shingle banks of cley
and salthouse and the runtons, Mind you i'm allready thinking of next season, think i'll do a lot more bank walking this closed season. Also I have
seen some big Perch whilst spinning this winter and had a follow from an absolute whopper, that has really got me thinking about really having a good go at
catching some big perch next season as well as the Barbel.

Thats a cracker Kerry, well done !
I intend on doing lots of bank walking and checking stretches out with my boat, I have a few new areas in mind that can only be rached by boat so I am going to check them out and maybe even do a spot of pre-baiting ! Also some depth finding etc etc. Also, I think it would be great for us all to be out on the banks keeping vigilant at all times when possible, there were a lot of people (you know who) fishing our rivers last close season and seeing as us silly buggers stick to the rules, I think it is down to us to ensure that those that flout our laws are given the low down and told that we will not put up with it ! Kerry, that is a great fish, what a way to end a season, bet the smile will last a long time!! Typical, the fish finally start showing right at the end of the
season, oh well, next season to look forward too now.
Justin nice brace to end with, impressive catch return for your first season targeting Thames barbel, well done. I missed out on my target, but ended up with the same as last year, 92 fish, 18 doubles, more bream than I care to think about, some nice chub & 7 carp, good fishing from a great river despite a season of such variable conditions. done.

Hi All
Had a busy and frustrating last day.............had to bank 18 good sized slabs before finally hitting into a very good fish (either a very good barbel or carp)!!! Unfortunately I hooked the fish at 11.57pm and the hook pulled a good two minutes later:-( There's always next season hey!!! See you all in three months.........counting down the days already! Blimey, we were really lucky with the river conditions last week to see the season out, the Thames on the middle is up sky high, chocolate brown and pushing
real hard with all Weir gates open !
Even so, I still have serious Barbel withdrawel syndrome and would get out there if I could !! J |
