Well done, Cass & Mark, fine looking trio of carp.
Seems the bream plague was the norm, with boris doing a no show, early days, just have to keep getting slimed untill they show up! Tightlines to all peter |

One of my lot had a terrific session after the "Thames tench" on saturday among the bag of 4lb averages were 2 tincas, 1 of 8lb and the other 8lb 6, I'm still in shock i think, the rest of us had so many snotties we looked like extras from a japanese bukake film

Great fishes, Mark, Dick and Cass (was nice to be there to witness Cass' fish and bag a little 6-7lb carpy myself). Thames tench, they do exist and I was lucky enough to catch one a few years back around 4lb but I wouldn't set a stall out for them .. ! |

There were some E.A. videos going around earlier this year that showed what I believe were largish tench. Seem to remember it was at Penton Hook.

Some cracking kippers there chaps; well done. Lawman, Please don't go all Kief Arfer on us. Quote: Adrian ---------------------------------- The next meeting of the Shropshire region of the Barbel Society will be held on Friday the 13th of July at The Red Lion, Holyhead Road, Wellington, Shropshire,TF1 2EW The speakers on the night will be River Teme guide and bait guru Dave Mason with big fish specialist Stuart Court. The evenings entertainment will feature hands on demonstrations of rig tying and modern bait making along with some ideas about how, where and when to use them. This is a brand new presentation and I know Dave is very excited about it and is looking forward to sharing the details of a brand new rig which proved to be very effective last year. There will also be some very impressive pictures of big barbel. As usual Teme Severn will be there with the new bait range for the 07/08 season, (including the all conquering lamprey flavour), and Gary Mills of The Mill Tackle company will be there to repair any faults on your centerpins or sell you a new one if yours is beyond repair. This meeting could transform your barbel fishing season, miss it at your peril. |

Thanks for your comments guys, I was certainly chuffed to start the season like that. Old boris seems to be giving us the run around so far though and the bream are going kamikaze.
The Thames has had me glued to it over the last few days so I havent really had a chance to get on here. The way it should be, of course! Tonight I had a stunning thunderstorm and the wall of water that followed soaked me to the bone. That got rid of those damn eastern europeans but again, I only ended up with a snotty net. Mike, I do believe youre right about that fish, I noticed the scales were quite stubby and thought something was up. It is a pretty creature. Mill End is on the RDAA ticket this season so I'l be in the area if you want that drink. I found another stunning fish on a walk tonight, it looked like a giant cream coloured koi, being trailed by a couple of mirrors. I managed to get their heads down for a half hour but something caused one to bolt and the others followed, leaving the bream to linger. Im going to have to wait a while before I get round to the barbel now! Speaking of tench, I left my mate in our swim and had a short wander on opening morning, I watched one tench of around a pound happily munching in the margins, then spotted a few more breaking the surface, absolutely beautiful in the morning sunlight. And just round the corner from where I saw a ten pounder caught last year. God, I love this river! Dick, thats one heck of a fish there, great angling! |

Hi Mark
Will need to do some work on Mill End. No night fishing is a bit of a problem. However these are obstacles to overcome. Will catch up in due course. Busy as heck at present [whats new you say] Keep on catching them. Target now 31lbs !!!! Mike |

Re: mirrror? | ||

tench at penton hook, if its below the weir then almost definately tench from out of the marina 12 of which was a prolific fishery at one time and has direct access onto the thames with no obstacles, fair head of big carp used to reside in there too, people used to feed em slices of bread from the fuel station in the marina, some of them were big lumps
and they would patrol right the way through to chertsey weir these are what the laleham lads are targetting, my old favourite place was at the end of the road where the slip is right out in the middle, or before the motorway bridge |
