What is the level like in or around the Radwell Felmesham ish area? I will be fishing tomorrow (Tuesday). Tight Lines and cheers. I have seen the Mississippi. That is Muddy water.
I have seen the St Lawrence. That is Crystal water. But The Thames is Liquid History. ( John Elliot Burns) |

To anyone that is that bothered, the river is on the way up again with more colour in it.The river dropped right back over the weekend and the colour was also going. really chuffed to see the river with some more water on it,and on the strength of that i wil be out tomorrow or wednesday.
got out at the weekend and got another ouse blank, whether that was because the fish gorged themselves when the flow/river was up?, i took fish when the river was up and pacey. i dont know but it seems to me more bites and fish taken when more flow and the fish seem to have to work that little bit harder any thoughts? tight lines to one and all. Yes i agree with Adamsmillnot, it seems these somewhat wary fish, will feed quite agressively when the flow is up and dark. But seeing as the stalking tactics are out the window for the time being. Its just a case of setting a couple of little traps and hoping the Barbel find them.
A lot of people wont consider the river in these conditions. Well at least that gives me a better choice of swims. Goodluck and tight lines. Michael. |

Was out last Thurs, in an area of certainty in the normal summer conditions. Lost one fish, on last cast at about 9.30pm.....................so stayed on for another 2hrs, just in case.............to no avail! doh.
River was 2ft up then, nice colour, plenty of obliging chub to 5.9, to keep me happy.........ish. Prob we have now, is the fish will be marauding all over the shop, so dif to nail down. But as discussed, once found will be easier to catch. some of the fish I've seen surface, have done in the heaviest flow areas. ie narrower, deeper swims. Hopefully as this rain is set to continue, the colouor will become less severe, as I do miss spooting and setting up the traps. Will be out Fri again, after another few days of forecast rain. I can live with that though. So many extreme low conditions over the last few years, these conditions are a welcome change. |

Hi everyone--To anyone interested I used to be harry123.I have not suffered a breakdown or gone schizo, I just was,nt able to log in under my old I.D. I agree with adam+chris about high river.A nice near bank crease can be ultra productive in coloured water plus the barbel in my opinion are easier to play in open water. No giving slack waiting for that kick out of the streamer weed. I hope to get on the bank tonight but if it thunders i,ll probably leave it till tomrrow.I don,t fancy ressembling a starlite on the bank.If anyone has tried to P.M. me sorry ,but feel free to do so again under my new alias. All the best- Harry.

Harry/chris,
For your info i got out last night, the river was well up coloured and rising,i didnt fish for too long but was able to sneak another double,10lb 12oz,caught under the rod tip just off a crease in the water, caught on a big halibut pellet . Going to get out again tomorow whilst the water is well up, warm and coloured. Tight lines to one and all. Adam |

Managed to get out fairly late, early on in the week. The river is at the highest i have seen. Its still very dark but not quite as fast, but still very powerful.
I was lucky enough to get a 12lb specimen. Perfect in every way......except for its tail. It had a piece cut out. This has been seen before. Some Carp in our local lakes have been found to have the same piece of tail removed. Its almost like a very crude method of identification. I have added a pic. Regards, Michael. Help needed on angling clubs on the river Ouse
|
Hi...
I live in Buckingham and tend to fish the severn as often as possible as I love the whole river experience, Anyway as much as I love the severn it occurred to me that I am in fact ignoring my local river (Ouse) and so this year I have decided to do something about it. I have considered joining the Milton Keynes club and fishing there stretch at Ravenstone Mill, can anyone advise me (on here or via private message) on how this stretch fishes and also what club or clubs would be good to join, I love my barbel fishing and also like my peace and quite so tend to keep away from town centres etc. Thanks in advance for any help |

Up in the Sharnbrook and Radwell area yesterday river level with top of banks and flowing through fields in a couple of areas. Still coming up very slowly during yesterday about 2 to 3 inchs in 12 hours.

Re: First blank of season

Decided on a first-time visit to VAC stretch at Radwell on Tuesday, which was just about still in its banks
Spoke to the only other angler there on arrival, who was actually resting a 7lb+ fish in his net. He was a regular there and said that he preferred the "flooded" state of the river. After a bit of a chat I set off encouraged with high hopes of a result, trying several likely swims with my (usually) successful bait and techniques, with not so much as a twitch to show for three hours or so In the interim, the other guy managed another barb(9lb) from the same swim, followed by a third (8lb+) from a second swim I stayed on until about midnight but had to admit defeat, before making my way back to the car. Seeing as how I'd seen three fish landed successfully, I couldn't really argue that they weren't feeding (and to rub salt in the wound the angler explained that it was the first time he'd caught there without bagging a double ) And to really cap the evening's disappointing result, I discovered that a stupid *@&$-ing cow had trashed my wing mirror, which is costing me over £60 to repair Down but not yet deafeated! Roger - sorry to hear about your mirror.. Was it an `actual' cow (or was that a euphemism?) - where did you park?

A local able to have a stretch to himself and in favourable conditions too, and catch a few fish, we can't have that staying quiet, lets advertise it for him

Howsie - I reckon i'll be down there at the weekend keeping said angler company!
I'm just a bit concerned about the car-wrecking cow - you know about my aversion to cattle!! |

When you say VAC do you mean Vauxhall or Verulam as they have opposite banks. There were no cows on the Verulam side 2 weeks ago when I was last up there and if they are now wont be fishing it as I had my car trashed by a herd in a field within 1/2 an hour while having a look at a stretch of the wye last week wing mirror off, dent in front wing and rear door and covered with saliva farmer reckons they love licking the paint. I reckon if I had be away any longer they would of had it up on bricks and nicked the wheels wont make that mistake again. Stickfisher |

There are cows all over the place and several bulls roaming too, so beware.
