I was out tonight....the river was a foot down from Sunday, still choccy brown but no as rich in colour as it was. I don't ring rivercall anymore but I guess the river is 18"-24" above normal summer level. A cool evening tonight. Had an 8lb2oz barbel and a chub and both were warm to the touch! So I expect the water temp to drop overnight. Mike |

I have just returned from a night outing, a little south of Sherrington Bridge at Newport Pagnell.
The river is not quite as dark as it was, but is still pushing through fairly quick. The level has gone down almost 2 foot tho, maybe more. Managed to grace the bank with brace of Barbel at 5 and 8 lb. Both lovely fish, immaculate. Plus a new personal record for me, a 4lb 2oz Chub on the Pin. Sleep now is needed. The Great Ouse is a cruel mistress. Tight lines to all. Michael. |

John,
Yes you are doing something wrong................you should be out there on the Nene not at Tutvey, if you're not going to bother, I'll get a Wellingborough ticket and show you how its done Bob |

Why name the venue? | ||
|
Sorry to be a party pooper here, but some of us are naming the venues where we're fishing and catching, and I for one would be unhappy that a venue I frequent being named.
Surely if one has to disclose the exact venue to a friend, of the fish they're catching, then email or pm would be more considerate to others who might be fishing the same venue. Sure let us know if you're catching, but it's really not essential to name the venue. |

why does it matter if you name a venue?any barbel caught at a venue could be miles down river the next day!

why name the venue? | ||

i think what chris is saying is that a named venue can attract too much attention making it difficult to find a swim,overbaiting in many swims,badly behaved anglers,spooked fish,litter,fires,guns,dogs.belive me ive seen all these,so i wholeheartedly agree with chris,dont give away too much,you may get your little bit of heaven ruined.

Always down to individual choice what people wish to mention on open forums.

Yes, its all about choice, but there is a right choice and a wrong choice. Choose not to name

Re: choice | ||

It's not just about choice, it's also about consideration for other anglers whom you might see at a fishery, that have also been catching and done alot of ground work to find the fish they're catching.
Also as a rule of thumb, barbel tend to hang around the same areas during the summer. Unless they're put under too much pressure of course. |

I've got no problem naming venues. I catch lots of barbel to 20lb at ten mile bank at Denver.i find pegs 10,23 and 69 particularly good
