Hi Chris,
It's taking longer than I had hoped mate, you know what these old houses are like. Everything you do opens up another can of worms!! I still haven't wet a line yet and most of my gear is still caked in the mud from last season. I should be able to make the 16th mate but not the 17th. I will give you a bell... Quote: I haven't heard from the Jammie bugger so he must be blanking. Cheers Mark. |

Do they mean me...........
They surely do Hi Mark/Chris I've only had one short aborted effort so far when I legged it in the face of an incoming storm, I'm not as keen as I used to be If you boys are having another little social and want a lucky charm let me know, it would be good to meet up again & do a repeat of last time. I can't see me doing much before autumn /winter again my inspiration isn't there and I'm messing around with a few other things. Tried river Zander this week and ended up with a couple of pike, and its commercial Perching this week |

hi
new member here. about the poachers at turvey, last July I fished the weirpool at Turvey, and I was packing up just after 5pm when I saw a group of 4 men walking along with spinning rods and lures. They asked me if I had caught anything, from their accents I realised they were Irish. One started spinning in the weirpool the other 3 went upstream above the weirpool, as I was walking away the one at the pool land a chub about a pound in weight and he put it in a plastic bag, so with that I got on my mobile to the baliff and he said he would not come out as they could turn violent. So I then contacted the E.A. and the reply I got was that there was nobody there after 5pm who could deal with the problem. Makes you wonder what we pay our rod license and club fees for. |

Does anyone know what the levels are like today or even if it has remained within the banks or spilled over, had a heap of rain yesterday.

Fished friday night, river was down 5ft on last weekend. Had a few raps but nothing developed.
Going down to Dorset at weekend to fish the Stour and Avon for 2 weeks so won't be on the Ouse for 3 weeks. Good luck to the Ouse anglers while I am away. Regards Phil |

Got out early Sunday morning and had my first blank of the season. God knows how many more I'm going to have throughout the season, no doubt loads!! River levels still well up, chocolate and pacey and we've had plenty of rain in Bedford today with more forecast this evening.
Tight lines to all. Adam |

Just got in from fishing the river. It was well coloured, within its banks and easily fishable. Not a lot of rubbish coming down either. Blanked though

Fished yesterday from 5-10ish, 2 Barbel, 9lb
River was apparently down by 21/2 ft from sunday but started to rise again by late evening, nice chocolate colour and easily fishable, saw only my car and one other, very quiet considering the time of year. Shaun WORKING SMOKE ALARMS SAVE LIVES

Say hello | ||
|
Hello all.
Im new here & I need some advice please. Ive just moved to Kempston from kent & want to do abit of barbel fishing as I have never caught one. Are there any clubs near by with good access to the river ( Im dissabled ) also I would like some advice on tackle & baits. I have been fishing for about 40 years but mainly for roach on the river Medway Beault ( nice rivers ). The last 2 seasons Ive done a bit of carping but missed the river fishing so any advice would be much appreciated. Tight lines. Russ. |

Hi Russ,
Pop into Bleak Hall Sports in Kempston with a view to purchasing a Vauxhall book.. Some stretches are reasonably accessible and most contain Barbel - I guess it depends how much mobility you have.. Declan |

Re: Great Ouse. | ||

Firstly i'd like to say hi to everyone. This is my first year Barbel fishing and first post.
I have been fishing the Great Ouse at Newport Pagnel since midnight on 15th/16th. 2.30 am 16th i had my first Barbel, 7lb 14oz. Incredible, its true what everyone says. They are due so much respect. I treated myself to a centre pin and as im fishing 2 rods on my night sessions. Typically all my catches were on the other one But patiently i waited, and was rewarded last week. 10lb 6oz, my second ever double, but more importantly, my first decent fish on the centre pin. The river is running very fast, very coloured, and very high at present. But they still have to feed so i persisted. Im told the river is quite difficult at the moment, so i cant wait until "normal" conditions return. I wish all fellow Barbel fishermen good luck and tight lines. Michael. |
